Light Bar - We made a light bar to easily and safely adjust out heat lamp height. The light bar also means that our sectionalized brooder box can have different temps at each location. Super easy to make and SUPER effective. A PVC pipe, 2 chains, 2 eye screw in the ceiling, and 2 c-clip things. (if you need more info let me know and I will detail it)

- Dividers in our brooder. Removable or made into wire mesh so chicks (ours are different ages) can see each other and hopefully get more acquainted. We also used one section in our brooder for some sicker chicks we had had. It was so nice to be able to separate them for a day or so. Cardboard made a great divider; cheap and easy.

- Use 5 Gallon buckets of paint to raise your brooder box to a higher and more comfortable level. We used some saw horses too.

- A heat lamp can be easily adjusted and safely mounted on an A-frame ladder. We moved this lamp and ladder easier over the course of a week with no temperature problems for our chicks! I panicked one cold night and this was all I could find to hold our lamp. DUH! The ladder!

These are simple tips. But, sometimes we are so stressed we forget about the wonderful items laying around our house.
