When are silkies old enough for you to tell the females and males apart?
When do they start crowing? Getting spurs? Growing combs?
Any help appreciated! Thanks!

It's very hard to tell with silkies. I have some that started crowing at 6 months. Do you have any pics? Seems like I only have one adult silkie chick out of the bunch, but only a few are crowing, the others are not, so who knows? I heard that the boys have thick feet and legs, and a big walnut comb. Then again, don't they all have the walnut combs?

When they crow or lay an egg. That being said, I have a black silkie roo who crowed at 3 months. He will be 5 months soon and it is obvious by his comb and little red wattles (and crowing) that he is indeed a he. I have blue silkies that I am trying to sex but am quite sure that one is a he as he also has tiny red wattles and a larger comb than the others. Its mostly a wait and see as they are notoriously difficult to sex.

Thanks for the info

I'm not sure why people say you can only tell when it crows or lays an eggs. I can tell my Silkies pullets/cocekrels apart at 8 weeks old. The males are always a little larger but more importantly I look at their combs. Roosters will develop a much wider comb then the pullets. Its very notciable and I can PM you some pics to show you. Also, helps to watch their behavior.
