☺ "Comm. black pullet"? (Not Sexlinks!) ✔Photo Update!✔

Looks amazingly like my Black Australorp when mine was that age. Black sex links have yellow/orange legs (I have 2 of them) and australorps have dark grey legs. My lorp is one of my favorites! She had a fuzzy greyish white but when she was a chick, but now is all black.

purchased some of the comm black chicks last year at TSC. they lay great are shyer than my red chickens and banties. they are not black austrolps which is what the salesperson told me . I only asked because i wanted to confirm again that they dont educate or train their staff. if i go in there i always point out if they have injured chicks in bin usually do, if one being pecked... usually do, as I stand there listening to newbies ask chicken questions i wait till they walk away then people ask me their questions then i give them the benefit of my backyard chicken site education almost always write down the website and give to them. because if they just got advise from the TSC clerk most of the time they will need it. I have found a few that have a basic knowledge but generaly because i love to raise and talk about my chickens and experiences i usually end up giving secret seminars when the staff isnt looking.

Ok, so they are sexlinks then? If so, I have a little roo! (white spot on the head)
I contacted the hatchery that I assume sent them (since they do deal with Mt. Healthy)..
They said that they will are a lot like Australorps..
So.. I'm assuming they are Aus. crossed..

Not to confuse you but it could be a barred rock. I cannot imagine them selling male sexlinks it would defeat the purpose of calling them pullets. If it is a barred rock it will have barred feathers real soon.

I went to our TSC today and they had three bins: Black Austalorps, Black Sexlinks and Red pullets. There were a few in the black sexlink bin that looked a lot like yours with the reddish face. The guy and sign said they were straightrun. I didn't see any with spots on their heads. When I got my BSL pullets as chicks last year, they were all black with gray legs. I ordered from Welp though, so their cross could be different.

I'm thinking he probably is a black sexlink roo. It would be nice if TSC would *accurately* mark their bins!!!! But, he/she is a sweetie, regardless. Hope he stays that way, if he is in fact a HE. lol Will try to post a photo later, with his red wing feathers coming in. Thanks everyone!

That pic is not an Aussie, nor an australorp cross. It's either a Barred Rock... (No because of the red) or a BSL roo... most likely.

Yes, i'm thinking a BSL roo, too. Unfortunately. lol Well, atleast he has a swweet disposition... For now anyway, hope he stays sweet.

I didn't know BSL roo's had red on them at all, I thought they were just black/white barred.

I don't think it's a BSL roo. If so, my hour away "local" TSC had a whole bin of over 30 mislabeled as pullets. Every one of them had that same white spot. They said they were Commercial Black Pullets - the comm. was spelled out - but I knew better because of this post. They are not Australorps. I just bought 15 out of a bin of over 30 and not one has a spot on it's head like that - some have 'molting' around their eyes, but no white spots. That leaves the Barred. When they get older and their feathers start coming in better, post more pics, please? I am very curious because I had to wrestle myself away from that bin. I wanted 3 of them and the RIRs or NHRs just because I knew you had one and didn't know what it was.

So excited!! I just checked my email and heard back from the hatchery that supplied the chicks to Tractor Supply, and they confirmed they are NOT any type of sexlink!! They are definitely pullets, and are crossed with Austalorp, and will be a lot like an Australorp!! Yay, not a roo!! I was beginning to wonder, as she is now getting a beautiful bronze color throughout her wings and now on her tail... White tips on her wings... I think she is going to be beautiful! I will post pics along the way! I'll try to post some taken of her yesterday soon.
