Not one that big. I think it could be alright if the membrane was not broken. It could get infected and the temp will be harder to control though.

Perhaps Saran Wrap? Or GLAD Press and Seal? If you cut a piece of Press and Seal slightly larger than the opening, then at least you could keep it closed and the rest of the shell would allow for air transfer???
