I’m posting about my Porcelain D’uccle Bantam Hen. Her name is Irish, she just turned 3 years old and I love her to death.
Last Tuesday (3-4 days ago) I noticed she was making a face and standing weird. She also retreated and refused to come to me like she usually does. I knew this wasn’t a good sign. I took her inside, made her a box in solitary, analyzed her situation and immediately went online.
Oh boy was there a lot to unpack.
It looked looked like her vent was clogged and something was protruding but it was hard to tell because of how dirty it was with feces and gleet. I did research and was concerned it was a prolapse and was causing her to be clogged up so I soaked her, gave her some meds to help with swelling and I’ve been feeding her a lot of probiotics. She’s been living in a box in my closet for a few days to keep her from laying. At a closer look it seemed less like a prolapse and more like a buildup of dried gleet. Today I soaked her again and the weird protruding mass went back into her vent, closing over it. But her vent is still protruding like the mass is still there, I can’t remove it while it’s in there. I can’t even see it. She can’t seem to get anything out.

She struggles to poop and I hear her squeal and push all the time, it’s heartbreaking and I have no clue what to do about it. I’ve been told to contact a vet, but unfortunately I can’t afford a vet visit. (I’m 16).
She tries to peck at her vent and I’ve tried to stop her, but when I leave for school there’s nothing I can do so I come home and see it’s irritated. What looks like blood, gleet and very runny feces is the only thing that can make it out. I rarely ever post anything anywhere online but I really want to save my bird.

Does anyone have any clue what I can do? Im open to answer any questions. Thank you so much.

Yikes, poor thing. Put a pair of gloves on and lubricate the vent with Vaseline or olive oil. Get it as lubricated as you can. Try to very gently push the mass out. This is not a part of her intestines. This is a lash egg, a severe constipation, or a stuck egg. Whatever it be, try your best to get it out. She won't live very long with it in there. If you want to give her the best chance, take her to a vet where they can get it out safely. I will be saying some prayers!

I would give her 1/2 of a human calcium citrate with vitamin d3 tablet in case she is having trouble passing an egg or lash egg. If she is constipated, a tsp of chilled coconut oil (cut into tiny pieces) may be offered for her to peck to lubricate her GI tract.

Thank you all so much, I’ll try to do what I can. Just gave her some coconut oil.
The odd thing is, she has been acting completely normal. She isn’t showing signs of pain or discomfort. She’s still vocal, eats, drinks and walks normally.
