Easier than a cat though, right?Practice! All it takes is lotsa practice!!!

I've read so many posts about people wanting to know how to give calcium pills, amoxicillin capsules, Clavamox pills. Most people end up crushing them and mixing in water, then they try to syringe it, which, if not done correctly, is dangerous.Huh.
Are a lot of chickens given pills?
Unless you have long fingernails you are very unlikely to hurt the chicken inserting a pill this way. And most pills are bigger than the opening of a chicken's trachea, so the risk of getting a normal sized pill in there is slim to none.I cringed hard when I saw her shove that pill back into mouth,
strong image of that pic showing esophagus and trachea openings...
...and the pill getting jammed into the trachea.
Good to know, I wondered that. What pills have you given you birds?I've found that all you need to do is to be able to get a pill on the tongue and the chicken will automatically swallow. Chicken tongues aren't nearly as devious as cat tongues.
Cat tongues can whip that pill back out at a velocity rivaled by a gun shooting a bullet.
