Rehoming sometimes can be pretty tough even giving them away but your only talking one so should be make it easier.

Me? Last year was about 30 or so. Not much choice for me or them.

Its definitely worse for them as most go to freezer camp. Its just a reality of hatching, breeding, and raising chickens. Many people can't have roosters but can have 6-12 hens. Hatch ratio is around 50/50. That leaves 6-12 roos homeless. Then most aim for 10 hens to 1 roo even if they can have roosters. If you have more than one roo in a pen its highly likely they will fight.
So I give them the best life I can until its time.
