My mule gets one quite a bit.

I haven't. What's in them?
They are delicious. You have to harvest them at the right time and cook them immediately. Slice in half lengthwise, drench in batter with a little salt, pepper and garlic powder and fry in butter. They are melt in your mouth delicious.

I don't pick mushrooms. I don't trust myself to not accidentally pick one of the nasty ones. I have heard stories... and I'll stick to the store-bought ones, thank you.
These ones that you're talking about sound delicious, though... elk, your pictures are making me drool! Would beer batter go well with them? I love beer batter....

I don’t eat them, and that’s why I’m good at finding them! My first year hunting I found some as big as my forearm. They were BIG that year.View attachment 2220711
Great find!

I don't have any pics on my phone, but last year we found a few huge ones. I actually prefer the smaller ones.

I fix them the same way Elk does. I brine them overnight in the fridge. Then rinse, slice in half, dip into egg, then flour, then straight into hot butter. Season with salt, pepper and garlic and fry until the batter is crispy.

I could eat mushrooms until I burst I think.

Beer batter goes well with nearly everything especially fresh caught perch.
