➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

That's a subculture over there kinda like Goths over here. You'll find people into anime calling each other otaku (someone who is really into anime) but that's an insult in Japan.
Oh oh story time! I have a college minor in Japanese language. It was a great program and I had fun doing it (read: I am not a crazy anime weirdo). One year, myself and some friends from the japanese program went to the local Japanese Festival. It is a small, cute festival with food, handicrafts, cultural demonstrations (drumming, dancing etc.)...and a few obligatory anime weirdos. My friends and I are sitting eating lunch when an annoying, unwelcome, cocky young man aproaches us and tries to chat up my friend. He asks her what interested her in the festival. She explains we are "students of Japanese culture." Him (smugly smiling, clearly thinking he is about to impress us) ah yes, in Japanese the word for that is "Otaku." Awkward silence descends. We make revolted faces. Friend explains man has just gravely insulted all of us. Unwelcome man slinks away in shame. We rejoice in our victory :lau

HAHA. What a dumbass.
That pretty much sums up the weirdo anime stereotype though. Somehow they’ve got it into their heads that being unhealthily obsessed means they’re experts of Japan’s culture. Bleh.

The Ginger and I went dog sledding on our honeymoon. Halfway up the trail we stopped to eat chili and drink hot chocolate with the other sled team and when we were preparing to launch off again, our dogs took off without us. The brake on the sled gave out and they dragged the instructor face down in the snow 100 yards before she let go LOL. (She wasn’t hurt, we all had a good laugh)
We had to hike a couple miles up the trail to where the second team caught our dogs, it was quite the experience.

Definitely the highlight of our trip. :love

:gigI think the best part is that you don't have to go too deep into Japanese culture to know it's an insult. Even in anime it's not cool to be otaku!
That Japanese program sounds fascinating! Japan as always intrigued me because of the juxtaposition between modern comforts and culture. Looking at pictures of girls in in their school uniforms talking to girls in elaborate kimonos. Their landscaping is gorgeous! I love everything except sushi.:p

This is so phony.
