I woke up this morning to my rooster screaming, and I knew that scream from the other day when a hawk had gotten a dove in the yard. We free range our chickens, and our 11 week olds so I sprinted outside and he’s running around fluffier than a turkey screaming danger and I see the ducks chasing this poor wounded thing.

Negan is missing some feathers so I’m assuming he got in at least a little fight with it. Our 11 week olds were crammed into the nest boxes, one was in a fenced off area, and two others were hiding under our smoker.

I think it has a broken wing, the injury itself doesn’t look bad, but there could be internal hemorrhaging. It’s in shock right now.

Ok, I had a funeral to go to this morning so I got backed up and lost all my quotes. I LOVE all the dogs! Even the ones that are a PITA. LOL A tired dog is a good dog behavior wise. I've had my share of furniture chewed and the wood trim in our brand new house. I'm over puppies, for me it is all year old rescues and older now. I do love the big dogs but the short life span is hard... the adopting seniors.. *sigh* But they deserve some love too. I adopt from a local rescue that does amazing things for seriously neglected/abused shelter dogs and puppy mill dogs dogranchrescue.com They have an enormous village of people and do adoptions all around the country.

Kiki, since you are waiting for the post man i'm assuming you know they deliver eggs. I had to go pick mine up at the post office when I ordered quail eggs, assuming I'll have to do the same thing with the duck eggs. Can't wait for Friday!

I rescued a dove from a dog attack, I put it in a cat carrier with some shavings, food, water, and a stuffed animal. I only had the shavings in one half so I could spread the food out in the other so the bird might be more tempted to eat since he can see individual food pieces. I flushed the wounds and then put him back in the cage. I put a blanket over the cage so it could be dark and quiet for him. The bird was only a fledgling, had old wounds filled with dirt, and pasty butt that looked like it was there for a while. He drug his wing on the ground so I thought it was broken but slowly he begun to use it again. Hope your bird is going to be okay :fl

Edit: The dark cage will help with the shock because it will calm it down.
