➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I have always wanted to visit Yellowstone.

Yellowstone is a pretty rad place. I recommend going in the off season (I can't imagine the crowds in peak tourist time). I also recommend hiking in some of the more remote parts of the park and finding hotsprings to swim in.

I have the brinesea octagon 20 (x-mas gift from my wonderful chicken-enabling husband) so I think the thermometer is different. I've had very good hatches with it,
I have had decent hatches even with issues but I don't have my new bator so I have to make do with what I got 2 brinsea bators a 10 and 30 egg. need to move some of my eggs into the smaller one so I can stagger hatch them.

@Blooie just did a quick WY real estate search... do I even need to see the house after this back yard picture?

I'm not here.
I'm not caught up.

:flJust letting you know I did a quick candle just now and the eggs are still both alive.

Temp is holding steady and I might have added a tad bit too much water this morning because my ghetto gauge says 50 percent. Where is the world is the percent sign on my phone keyboard?

Bbs

I was wide awake...I bet I looked like this >>

Hold on....I'm not quite awake yet.
You put eggs live in water?
Are you serious?

This blows my mind....how does the little chick inside not drown?
I'm totally not understanding how this is possible.

Yes, it's called water candling... You do this in the final week.
***As long as there is no pip or crack.
You use very warm water the air cell allows the egg to float.
You wait till it is still from putting it in the bowl.
Then if you see jiggling or movement of any kind the chick is still kicking and doing good. It goes back to continue.
If there is no movement at all after few minutes, in case it is sleeping.
Then the chick may have died. But I never remove them from the bator till I know for sure there is no chance for a hatch.

I love to see the chick move the egg, during the water candling...

Might be something to try... :D

They won't drown as long as there is no pip or crack in the egg. The water can't flood the egg it is protected inside the membrane..
The moisture will not harm the chick. I use it just before lock down.

For Emu Eggs?

Water candling has not been needed for my chicken eggs
