➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I put up with it in my previous large flock, but these are/will be treated like pets. I had a Minorca that would throw herself into the wire and physically harm herself and others by crashing into things when I looked her direction. Ugh. Not worth the stress.
I agree, but with only 6 laying hens, and only getting 3 eggs on average a day right now and being dozens of orders behind we can't afford to lose any hens. If we didn't have this business then I'd be really tempted to get rid of them.

Hey Kiki, I would recommend blending up the chicks food (the food that isn't soaked in water) so it'll be smaller for them because quail chicks have a hard time eating the pieces that big.

I have so much respect for people who study genetics, it's so hard for me. But have you been on the genetics calculator thread you could help there.
I would but some of the people there are a bit...finicky about their google sheet and how it is set up. Plus I am best off just studying for pleasure as opposed to forcing myself for the sake of a project. :)

Re: comb size based on heat: I believe it. Birds I've owned from same genetic stock as breeders in the south end up with much smaller combs in adulthood.
I haven't read the link above yet. Ill get to it.
I was reading a post in Tes' thread wrong maybe. I thought I read that birds in our heat will develop Combs and wattles faster. Let me go back.

7 is getting busy.

Me three!
Like I said, even if that whackjob turns out to be a pullet, I’m very likely getting rid of it anyway. I cannot stand spastic birds in my flock.
It's too young to label it spastic.

I smashed it up with my lump hammer ...should I smash it more? I'll do so now but I don't think I am going to continue dry feed.

Yes! They are so loud, especially before, during, and after laying an egg. :th And the non-stop broodiness is ridiculous when we run an egg business.

all my hens cackle for an egg, but she literally screams for hours afterward and sometimes goes into screaming fits and I think she's laid and egg, i go to check it out and nothing. She's just walking around screaming like an ass. I think I've mentioned before how I'd like to make dumplings out of her.
