➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Are you moving out of your current place and into this one?
Yup.
Been living in a drill site trailer. It's suited its purpose, but nearly froze to death last winter. The floor isn't insulated and we had quite a few long spells of -40.
The trailer will stay, and will serve as a guest house. Added a closed in porch to it which doubles the living area for 3 seasons.

Fun! I see houses being moved fairly often, I always thought it would be fun to redo a house .
It's already getting expensive, but still cheaper than buying anything else.
Paid $5000 for the house. $20,000 for the move, about $30,000 for the grade beam on pile foundation (3' crawl space). Still have to get septic and a well.
I think that's the thing I'm most excited about. Running water! A real stove! :wee

I feel sick to my stomach. I stepped on and killed a chick this morning going into the chicken yard. :hit

I came through the gate, saw momma huddled with her chicks on my right. I tossed as bit of the fodder to her and heard her call her chicks to it. I then walked towards my left looking at the chickens running towards me for fodder-time. Next thing I knew, Momma and her babies were right underfoot -- they ran to follow me, I guess, and I had stepped on one.

I feel so, so bad. I've spent so much time in the yard lately, making sure everyone was ok in the heat, and that none of the young cockerels were harassing the chicks, that mom and the chicks had gotten totally trusting of me and my big, stupid feet. I can't believe I didn't look down and be more careful. I am such an idiot. Poor mom lost a baby because of me.

It's a horrible feeling when you make a mistake there is no way to make right again.

Oh that sucks. I know that we all have to expect chick mortality to some extent, but with this being different I know it's got to be hard.
:hugs

:( I’m sorry, that blows. They really are tiny little buggers, and quick too. Don’t beat yourself up, accidents happen. :hugs
