I’m so sorry! Hopefully it was just the feed, and the new breeder’s eggs are even better. How local is the new breeder? Will the eggs still have to be shipped?

The new breeder lives in the same county as me. I am picking the eggs up tonight.

Why? Seems like a pretty important step.

That’s good! Much better chance for a hatch rate. Do you use the same brooder box for each hatch? Could you clean it with a diluted bleach mixture?

I could do it myself but I don't want to.

A necropsy done by a lab can tell you things that you cannot tell by visual inspection. Some states provide either free or low cost necropsies. I do not know what the State of Wisconsin offers. Contact your state veterinarian to find out what they can do to help you.

This is good advice. It is so odd and tragic for chicks to drop dead like this.

We think it was the feed. The bag was 6 months old.

This is where my mind was going when I read this. Hopefully that will have been the issue. Just toss it. Problem solved. Sorry for your losses , Cy.

I've contacted them about it before and it was over a hundred dollars per bird. Not happening.

I have. Do I really NEED to do a necropsy on one of them? I know it is beneficial but wouldn't switching the feed and breeder be enough?

I tossed the bag.
Tried to buy newer feed but the bag we bought was molded before we opened it

Prolly the feed I wouldn't really about a necropsy what's done is done. Bleach where they were and their feeder and waterer. Get fresh feed. Feed was prolly moldy. I only use nutrena other brands I've had problems with and dont ever buy the last bag on the pallet it gets all the moisture and junk off the floor like cleaners
