That can happen with any non native species introduced into an environment that doesn't have the predators to control them. But yes they are smart little guys. I do understand the need to eliminate them I just hate those traps for the sake of the animal.

Yeah i would use hav a hart probably but they are more expensive and possibility harder to kill having to shoot through the cage

I’m so mad at myself. We didn’t get any eggs yesterday, and we have only been getting 1 a day so I went to go collect them this morning and we still only had one. Well when I went to grab it the hen came in and SCREAMED because she was standing in the rain (she could have stayed in the dry coop or under the dry patio) which freaked me out so I dropped it. We have had 1 carton that we only needed 4 eggs to fill since Wednesday but with these no egg days and 1 egg days just aren’t cutting it

Egg collection is getting pretty thin at my place as well. 2 hens are molting, 1 is busy being a momma, and that just leaves 4 still laying. Yesterday I got 4 eggs and screamed in excitement. Of course that probably means no eggs today.

We won’t get anymore today, the rain has them all freaked out. I think one of our Brahma hens is starting to molt, but everyone else isn’t molting as their feathers aren’t everywhere like hers. One is coming off being broody for 3 days. We have 7 hens that are coming into lay but if they wait too long they’ll postpone it too.

Hey @BantyChooks I have a question for you. If a PC is slowing down laying or stopping due to age, is the tendency to go broody still there?

I only got 2 eggs all weekend from the quails. I wondered if I need to supplement light already but it sounds like everyone is slowing down. We’ve had a ton of rain as well.

This particular raccoon was wise to live traps and if a live trap was not staked down, she would stand the trap on end to empty out the bait. She was also too big for a large size live trap.
