➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I suddenly feel the urge to acquire a giant rabbit.

You know the saying -- "When they start to crow it's time to go."

But who am I to talk? I'm still trying to find the will to off Big, as I've pretty much decided on Handsome as my keeper.

Lol do it!

And aw can't you sell him?

I might be able sell him. I say might, because there are tons free roosters being offered at all times through our feed store. But since I found the weird yellow poo from one of his hatch mates and the enflamed cecae sacs upon butchering, I have a mild concern that I could have some form of blackhead in my flock. Even though everyone else looks healthy, and the affected rooster himself looked and acted healthy before he was dispatched, I would want to test before selling, just in case. I would hate to pass on something out of ignorance. I'm probably not going to do that, and will just butcher.

@Morrigan are your meat birds aggressive? I am pretty sure my two ended up being a boy and a girl, the boy has bitten me really hard the last two mornings. It didn't break the skin but left a nasty red mark. They are 6 weeks old this week, so wondering if they should just go to freezer camp.
Mine are usually pretty docile, but once or twice I have gotten a mean cockerel who would run up and peck at me. It was hard for me to get mad at them for seeing me as the enemy, lol, but I did put them first in line for freezer camp.

Thanks. I think I will just butcher this week, they are big enough in my opinion and I need the space they are in. We are going to have a family gathering Sunday so I think we will have chicken for dinner :)

Ohh that makes sense then but is unfortunate :( and I was thinking free or sell, didn't necessarily mean sell, guess rehome would be a better term, so that he could live, but if he's sick, you definitely don't want to pass disease along

I seriously just posted this on a homesteading/farming/giant awesome family&community now FB group I'm on LOL I am evidently desperate :lau

Anybody have any lop rabbits? I really want a rabbit and the lops are just so cute. They had a lot of cute ones at the Fryeburg Fair and I almost bought one when we went this weekend but didn't want to drive one all the way home and/or sneak it in the hotel anyway, preferably Holland Lop, Mini Lop, or French Lop but they're all honestly adorable.

No bunnies here. Craigslist might have some in your area. Personally, I like the look of Flemish Giants or Netherland dwarfs. I love the extreme size differences.

If you think the dwarf bunnies look like guinea pigs, check out the lionheads!

I don't think he is actually sick, but worry he *could* be a potential reservoir for something that he may be resistant to, but someone else's flock is not. Not sure how likely that really is, but after reading so many posts on this forum from people who got a disease brought into their flock from a free or auctioned chicken, I really don't want to do something irresponsible out of ignorance.

It's still sad, he is so beautiful. The worst part is, my little gray runt, who I think is a female, is really bonded with Big. She (he?) is going to take his absence hard. But this morning I watched him chase the 7 week olds -- both male and female around the yard -- and this isn't behavior I want, and I've got to make some tough calls. I've given myself one more week to make a final decision. Hate, hate this part of flock management. :(
