I had one hang around for a couple of weeks. When a pair of mule deer fawns jumped over the fence and almost landed on him, he decided it might be safer to be somewhere else.

Are they loud?:confused:
Ring necked can get pretty loud the other ornamentals are usually quite, breeding season is really the only time they get worked up and call all day long. But most peeps wouldn't know what was making the noise unless they have heard them before...my neighbors don't complain and it gets pretty loud with around 50 cock birds crowing at the same time.
 
Sometimes they have those growths...doesn't seem to bother them and I don't think it's like a cancerous growth. I think but don't know for sure, that they seem to appear on those that got pecked when they were just hatched and for a couple of weeks of age.

I've noticed it on my pheasant chicks and it becomes very pronounced if it is bleeding from the pecking, kinda like scar tissue! That's just my observation, I don't know with absolute certainty.
