➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Sorry about your quail eggs, Kiki. The little guy probably needs some more practice before he is able to reliably hit the target.

Update on my meat box heroes. We ended up culling the one with the sour crop a couple of weeks ago. Pitiful and skinny as it was, it still was over a pound dressed. My husband insisted it was too small for people food, or maybe he was just grossed out after pulling out the crop :sick, so we cooked and deboned it for the dogs.

All remaining 22 are thriving and, at 7.5 weeks old, are getting big. We will probably butcher the 4 or 5 largest in another week. A few are still agile enough to fly to the outdoor roosts.

I just got done taking the littles outside. I waited as long as I did because it's just icky and rainy here and frankly, I didn't feel like going out lol. But, I know they are going to have to get used to this kind of weather so we trotted them out. Luna, the little Mallard, was quacking up a storm. After dropping the littles off to their little coop section, we went over to say hello to the ducks. I watched Luna go down towards the end of their area and I said to my DH that I thought that she was thinking about taking a flight. She just kept looking around but came back down to the pool area. I was going to try and get her quacking on video and I got this instead. :love

I told my DH, did I call it or what? I knew she was thinking about taking a trek around the yard. This was just a brief one as you can see. I don't know if we're going to clip her wing or not. It's kind of neat to watch her fly. She doesn't do it very often. Just takes a circle around and comes back. Idk. If she actually takes off I know I will regret it but I think we may just gamble that she won't leave her flock mates and food source. :fl

My Calls used to do that all the time.

ETA. They also called in wild ducks. They never left with them though!

That’s exactly what my call ducks do. And I can usually tell they are getting ready to take off beforehand too. When they were first learning, one of my drakes left for about an hour. I walked a mile looking for him. He finally did come back though. Now they just do the circle like your Luna, and land back in the yard.

Great video by the way!! You did great following her with the camera.
