➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Hey Kiki, I was at one of our local feed stores that I never go to just to look around and I saw this feed. Does this seem like really high protein to you? Also, I like how they say not to feed moldy, wet, infested, etc but the bag is in horrible shape.:pop Oh! And it says chick grower when the bag itself said all flock. :lau

Yes. It locks.

That's good and that wire looks strong.

Well technically it says chik-grow-layer so it is all flock :p

Anybody want some cake before I eat it? :lau

Quail require a higher protein, they probably consider this a mid range compromise for all flock maybe?

It was labeled for chickens, not quail.

I have not! I still think it’s way too high for an all flock. Too much protein leads to kidney and liver disease.

Mmm nope! ;) Read it again. It says to feed to chicks up until laying.

It’s still on the higher end of the all flock types, but I really think it was mislabeled bags and supposed to be a chick starter/grower type. In any means, they needed to discount those and bring in new because the bags were super old!

That is true but do you have any idea how high of protein it takes to cause kidney disease in chickens? No normal feeds contain high enough protein to cause problems.

For turkeys, they can start having problems when consistently fed a 40% protein diet while chickens can handle up to 70% protein before having problems.

Too high of a Calcium content will cause problems long before high protein will.
