➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I processed the second meat chicken yesterday. She was 12 weeks. Live weight was approximately 9.9 pounds. Processed weight was approximately 7.8 pounds. She was huge.

How many meat chickens did you have?
Only two. I got them at TSC as kind of a practice for doing the turkeys. The first one was a boy and bit me every time I went into the enclosure, so he was processed a few weeks ago. I would have to look up when. He was about 9 pounds live weight when we processed, so I really should have done this one at the same time, I don't think she gained much since then, especially for how much she was eating.

Well, she is a female so she might not gain as much as him for that reason.

This one was Pudge. The other was Chunk. Bertha would have been a good name though.

I have a hen named Bertha she is a buff Brahma, she is huge and is the queen bee of our flock.

We ordered 50 day old roosters and grew them out for meat, being heartige breeds we were not under time constraints like the meaties. We started offing them at 16 weeks with the last few going at 22 weeks. It allowed us to take out the biggest and aggressive ones first. 3 were spared, as we believed they were female. 2 were, 1 was not, he is my aviator.. I knew he was a he but no crowing...than at 7 months old he finally did a want to be crow...He was always so cool and calm just didn’t have the lungs for crowing right. At a year old I found him gone, collected all possible eggs and now our residence rooster is his son. I set 40 eggs, 14 hatched, 7 boys, he was the most chill. Others made a tasty dinner...

Wow. That's a big chicken!
I'd really like to do meat birds, but the CX just kinds freak me out, on a base level. I'd like to try Red Rangers, though I just can't argue with that that processed weight at 12 (!) weeks. Amazing.

It sounds really stupid but it's this Christian summer camp for foster kids and they go for like a week or two every summer and I think they pair you up with a kid or maybe a few kids, not sure.
Kdog! That sounds amazing and right up your alley, not stupid at ALL. We have a big summer camp based in Houston called Frontier camp, pretty much everyone I know has had at least one sibling attend and/or volunteer. I’m not a talker or good with people in the slightest, but something like that would be amazing for you. You just gotta go get it girl, stop spinning your tires! Choose something and go after it. From the amount of time I’ve known you, a trade school or camp volunteering program would do you wonders.

Have a great day, @KDOGG331

Aw thanks, you too Cy!

Aw thanks, I guess I just always worry it sounds stupid because of the Christian part. And I looked up the one you mentioned and that sounds amazing too! And thanks, you are right. I definitely just need to choose something. I can't just sit here BYCing and Netflixing and tweeting my entire life lol and I guess if I choose "wrong", I can just do something else. Better than nothing.
