➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I have a niece and a nephew who each are working in their own fields in genomics.
Nathan is involved with the Grail project...research in developing a blood test that will confirm lung cancer that when detected in the early stages has a greater recovery percentage. The blood test would pick up minute rNA particles shed by the cancer cells.
And Kathryn heads research in bio-genetics. The last project was developing a DNA test for 99 flags for genetically inherited diseases. She is currently on maternity leave. Her baby son has undergone the test.
Their father, my brother-in-law helped develop a gene synthesizer back in the 1980s that is now a standard piece of equipment in laboratory research. He continues to work in bio-research and development.

Amen to that!
:love This is very neat!

Was it the china hiv one?

Yeah, that’s the one I was referring to, and agree.

Idk, like 30s or at least late 20s. I figured you were youngish, like younger than kiki, but older than some people, especially cause don’t you like have your own house and a husband? Haha

Yeah it’s definitely interesting. I don’t really get it though. So they were in the womb? Or already born? Or?

Yup China and that’s the one I mean
Yes I am with husband and house. Apparently I missed the 20 year old memo.

Don’t listen to Kiki, she’s getting senile in her old age. (did you know she’s a great-grandma?)

That is awesome! You must be so proud, what an amazing family.

Wow that’s awesome! I guess that’s not that weird, people used to get married at like 18 all the time, like probably our grandparents, but I guess it’s just most people now aren’t even done with school and/or out of their parents’ basement till like mid 20s haha

And omg :lau

I didn’t know which place it was but yes that was the same one. :) And no the gene editing happens during the first critical stages of the embryo developing. It can only occur when the zygote is dividing to create a blastocyte. That’s where the stem cells begin forming. Even then, most geneticists prefer to work more towards the zygote itself but that’s much riskier since that is it, just the one cell.
I attached a google picture to help put meanings to the names.

They’re near each other right? Or is Japan more towards Australia?

And ohhh okay. And I think I remember all that stuff from school lol so were the twins actually born or was it just an experiment?

That is so cool! Their line of work is amazing, and so crucial to society, even if some in society doesn’t think so. :) I’m a genetics fanatic, it’s what we are doing in my majors biology course currently! Do you know what the name of the synthesizer is?

And yes! Regulations (not heavy regulations though, that’s more restrictions) are key to successful industries. :)
