➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Has @KikisGirls decided how she wants to build her Incubator?
Wait—are you talking about the real incubator I am going to build or this experiment ghetto mostly already built bator?

Am I using the dashes correctly?

My first hatch ever was with a strainer and equally sized bowl and duck taped them to make a sealed container. I then added a tiny light bulb on a dimmer switch. I have a tiny red bulb thermometer. I ended up hatching 2 out of 6 duck eggs. The eggs were from my mallards I had at the tome.
Sweet!

Isn't it great to be able to just throw something together to use?

Well, my serama update.
Sadly one fully formed chick died in shell. :hitYet, I have one live chick resting in its egg. :jumpy
It had internally pipped so I opened just the cap for now.
So it finished absorbing yolk.
It is breathing and peeping.
Oh, I should have opened the other egg last night... :hitbut I know that happens. Though if only, sick about the loss of the chick so close to freedom from the shell. Dang it....
I wanted at least 2 so they have each other. Just did not go as i hoped. :(Yet, I have this wee chick. :love
Going to contact a local man who I bought 4 silkie chicks from last month. See if he has any tiny breed of newly hatched chicks to get this one a buddy.
Now back to the Balutties thread still in progress.

Added: Getting ready to go to work. I have wiped the chicks face and area facing out. :hugsI still see a vein. So egg is not open enough for him to push out prematurely. So hoping the chick will be ok, till I return around 5 tonight. Humidity is up in the bator and humidifier in the room. As the baby finishes his job in the egg today. :fl
My nerves are shot....
Finally able to head home. I so pray all is well.... and chick is ok and ready or is already out of shell. The assisting instruction said 8-12 hours. So when I get home it should be ready.
Wanted this all to take place when I was off Monday and Tuesday. Never goes as planned.
Will let you know...

We will all be sending good vibes your way starting right now.

The fan issue is bothering me now....see this is what happens when you research!
You learn things.

I need to remind myself real quick:

This is an experiment it must be done with a ghetto bator.

Chapter 3 can be my real incubator build.

So the only thing I really need to figure out is which bulb I am going to use and where I am going to install it and what I need to do about the lid.

That's it.
3 things.
No more.
a glass bowl or even a piece of glass or plexiglass over the whole would work and if it gets to hot you could take it off/ out. Bulb at the side (middle to high up that is) might be easier to section off so chicks don't touch it. you could try a 25 watt if you have not already. I'm unsure if there are lower watt bulbs tho :idunno
