➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Wait what happened to the chickens you got and put in the run you redid?
I moved a town over for college. The rest of my family still lives at the other property and are taking care of them for the time being.
So cute. Are you going to keep Triumph around for a little bit as a guidance dog?
Can't tell you how much I appreciate my old dude with the new pup. He's taught him indoor rules, boundaries, appropriate playtime(s), leash manners... the list goes on.
Plus, pups keep the old fellas young.
We’re thinking of taking him back in 2-3 weeks. They enjoy each other’s company but it is a little hard to train Theia with him around. She has a hard time focusing and he’s a very handsome, distracting old fella.
Theia keeping Triumph young:
Perfect.
:love
Theia Habiba Tesginger.
LOL. I haven’t proposed your name to hubby yet. I imagine it’ll go something like “You remember kiki? No.. the chicken one.. yea... she said her middle name is Habiba... *shrug*”

Man, sister, that dog is beauty in action. I love that foxy head of hers.

Wow. That's quite an honour to be part of the study. You must have quite the reputation as a breeder for them to know of you.

That is the sweetest costume ever! :love

Thank you. But I'm thinking it was because there were only 7 breeders for Heritage Columbian Wyandotte registered with the Wyandotte Breeders of America last year.
I do have over 40 CWs in my flock which makes me one of the larger flocks.
The Columbian color variety is very hard to maintain and has been dropping in numbers since new colors have been developed over the past 35 years. I also have White, Black, and Blue.
I used to have Blue Laced Red and Silver Laced. I have been working on Blue Columbian and Buff Columbian and Barred although these color varieties are not yet included in the Standard of Perfection.

Don't tell him.
It can be our secret.

That sneeze. I love him.

I need recommendations. What is a good incubator? I know that I want an automatic egg turner. I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount but am willing to spend a decent amount. Preferably something to be able to hatch at least 20 or more. Not sure that we'd ever hatch that much at a time but I'd rather have something a little bigger than I need than smaller. I'm up on Amazon trying to look at some and am reading reviews and a lot of them have not so great reviews. It's just so difficult to know what was "user error" or those "sometimes stuff just happens type error" but isn't the norm that usually happens. And is it worth having a digital thing that keeps up with humidity and temp and all that? So I'd like some opinions. :caf
Thx all!
I have several Hovabator incubators and like them. I use one for a hatcher and the other three for incubating.
Get an extra egg turner for holding eggs before setting them.
Purchase an extra motor for one egg turner in case you have to replace one during incubation (it is easy to change).
You can get liners for the incubator for water and to help keep the incubator clean. They are easy to clean, sanitize and reuse.
Also, besides a battery powered humidity/temperature thermometer inside each incubator and hatcher, I use small meat thermometers pierced thru the side wall in a corner. Both supplement the internal temperature gauge and can record temps level with the eggs and below the eggs.

Mine have held up to many years of long working hours.

He is so cute in his little party hat and with his own pupcake! :love I'm sure he had the best birthday ever. Until next year that is.

Happy birthday Sab!
Very cute party hat. :th

He looks very cute and innocent here, but then seconds after I took the picture, he managed to shake and scratch the hat off and then I had to spend five minutes trying to get it back, before he could shred it.
I really would rename him Flat Faced Sausage McGee if it wouldn't also mean I'd have to change my username.

Thank you. :love We really are in love. She’s got horrible manners but she’s so sweet and sensitive to correction.

Allergies plague me and the old man the worst. We’re both sneezy, itchy, tired old grumps.
