➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Oh. I've never bought medicated. It hasn't been necessary as we apparently don't have a huge cocci problem. I know the signs and where to get Corid quickly if I need to.

Yeah, maybe it would be better to not get medicated so they can build an immunity to it? I think I got non medicated last time and my chicks all grew up perfectly fine and healthy. But they were also inside until 8 weeks and I got them dirt from outside. These ones I’m planning on raising outside. In the coop at first and then in the run when they get big enough. So maybe they will be able to build enough immunity from being outside. I think it says in the bag the medicated is if you don’t want them to have immunity/don’t care about it. Which is not what I want. So idk. Maybe I’ll jut get a small bag of medicated and a big bag of non medicated. I checked the dates on the kind I usually get and they are all really old so I’m getting Purina.

Just get the small bag of medicated. It won't hurt.

Buggers!
Maggie just ran back west across the yard going back to her nest and I couldn't get out the door quick enough to see where she went! But She didn't head toward the Photenia bush near the road so that helps narrow the search field.
I WILL FIND HER NEST!
:lau
Good luck.:fl

I wonder if that's a cayuga thing? :idunno Mines not broody, but she can hide her eggs better than any other bird we've had. :he
It may be....my other Cayuga cross hens can't be let out of the duck run until they lay their eggs. Otherwise it is like an Easter egg hunt every day! They do go back to the same nest for at least three eggs before they change locations. It is far easier to hold them until 9 am before releasing them

No luck finding the nest...yet.

We sorted 2018 heifers this morning. The calf crop has been one of the best we have had. Hard to decide selling some of the 40 keeper heifers. Narrowed it down to 19 to keep as replacements and 21 to go to the stockyards.
We laughed about putting on blinders when we load these girls in the trailers this weekend. Six of them are full blood Angus. The rest are 3/4 and 7/8 Angus.

Then I cooked lunch and put a roast with veggies on to slow cook for dinner.

And I mowed the yard and garden....thought surely Maggie would budge off her nest....but NOooo! She stuck tight.

Yesterday, I worked on cleaning out the brooder room floor in the barn. Actually filled two 5 gallon buckets and carried loads to the big scoop on the tractor....a great start on next year's compost pile. Carried 41 5 gallon buckets full....filling the scoop twice.
Still need to clean one floor pen. Then repair the screen door to the room, spread a bag of wood shavings, securely hang the brooder lights and release 97 chicks ranging in size from Easter hatch to 2 weeks old. I have the 5 broody hens sitting in the nest box in the brooder room and will put chicks under them.
I had to do something....because I have 65 eggs hatching this weekend! And then on May 2 and May 7 and May 14 and....
I'm taking it easy tonight.

Yeah that’s what I ended up doing after being in that store like an hour maybe two lol though part of that I was looking at other stuff but still. And no I just left Lowe’s. Walked around all over trying to find the blasted food grade buckets which they used to have right next to the blue ones but now they have blue ones EVERYWHERE and the white food grade ones in one little section in the paint aisle so I walked all over thinking surely there would be white ones with the blue ones somewhere but noooooo. But I finally found one. And some lids. Also found a cool Gamma seal lid thing so I got that. Thought it might be good for the food bucket.

Finally starting to feel real lol now to clean out the coop and set up the brooder inside it. Probably tomorrow if it’s nice. :fl
