➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I would, but they only had pullets. I'm secretly hoping to get a rooster out of the bunch. I will absolutely breed them if I've got nice looking birds. My yuppie feed store is rad.

Aw that stinks!! Well hopefully you get a boy then!! And I wish we had a yuppie one here lol

Yes! I was thinking of ordering a boy if I order Russian Orloffs and Iowa Blues later this year. Gotta build that new coop first, though.

Do it!! I have been wanting to try Iowa Blues but I forgot about them until this year lol read about them a while ago. Maybe one day.

Iowa Blues sound really cool. I definitely plan on adding them and the Orloffs to my flock within the next year or so. If not this year, then next. Once we have the new coop built, the current coop will become the brooder.

They really do sound like a cool breed!! And that’s awesome!! Sounds like a good plan!!

There's someone near me breeding silver Iowa Blues. She just posted hatching eggs on FB today. $60/doz. Guessing that shipping isn't included since it's a regional board.
They really do seem like cool chickens. I mean, not as cool as the Cream Brabanters, but cool enough that I will have them soon! Ideal has them too. They have a ton of breeds!

Chicks in the hatcher are popping out....already moved 15 to a brooder tub.
I have 57 ready to go outside to the brooder room tomorrow since everything is ready. Didn't take long to rescreen the door and hang it. I moved the broody hens to the nest boxes in the brooder room. They settled nicely on the fake eggs. Will begin the process of slipping chicks under them in the morning.

Lost 4 of the 9 baby ducklings in the duck brooder last night. Looks like they piled up under the light. I have them in a separate brooder from the chicks. Ducklings like to play in the waterer and get the wood shavings too wet for the fluffy butts. The remaining 5 are lively little webbies. Started them on some mashed peas tonight with their food. So cute!

Ruby is having a hard time settling down for bed tonight. She caught and killed a vole on her last potty break in the garden. She keeps asking to go out. Guess I'll have to go to bed so she will. :lau love my big girl.
