➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Yeah it definitely does not! I think I could tolerate slight meanness to me as long as he was good with the hens or protective but it doesn’t sound like he is any of those things which makes him kind of useless ha
Mine requires periodic correction. (I shove him with my foot if he being too bold). He and I are both still young and learning how to get along. But he is generallly a good boy. I like looking out into the yard and seeing him standing tall, watching the skies while all the ladies take a dust bathe together. He does have a terrible eggsong though, and insists on screeching it every time one of his ladies lays.

Is it possible to rehome him? He sounds awful lol
X2 That does not sound like fun :(
Definitely not. He’s too much a stupid head that I wouldn’t want to have anyone else have and would probably die of a heart attack on the way off the property. He thinks he’s top dog until my mom or I am out there. Especially me since I’ve had beyond my already limited patience tested by him. I will say, at least he’s tried to fight a hawk before so he has that tiny thing going for him. He’s a dimwit though.

We also have a mentally...challenged...son of his that has to stay with us. The kooky thing can’t walk in straight lines. I’d love to keep Biggie as well since that doofus is HUGE, like already bigger than Negan but we don’t need 3 roosters..we really don’t need any.

Oh no. :barnie It’s Cinco de quatro all over again for Lucille II
Lucille was, of course, much cooler than Lucille II. I miss her. She was prettier, more curious, a better layer, and friendlier. Shortly after she was taken, my other EE pullet was also killed by the dogs. I lost three laying hens in a couple weeks. I HATE those rotten dogs.

Oh lord, that’s Negan too with his egg screeching. His voice carries across the neighborhood. It makes me want to bury my head in the ground.

Nah, Negan isn’t bad when he’s doing his job, but the pushy idiot has pushed us all passed our tolerance points.

I understand then. You don’t want to dump that on someone else :hugs
And hey, fighting a hawk is pretty impressive!

I don’t blame you. That’s so awful, are they someone’s dogs or strays? We had a dog that always stalked our chickens but thankfully he never found a way into the yard.

Though the same dog fought off a coyote that came onto our land so I was grateful for him when that happened.

He earned his keep then, and now he’s basically keeping the hawks here with his incessant screaming. It was a juvenile hawk but still bigger than he was. I couldn’t get out there in time when I saw it swoop but he had already told the hens to run while he ran at it.

Crappy neighbor dogs, and one stray. Mainly the neighbor dogs, though. I haven't seen the stray since I chased it away from our goat pen.
My dad had to kill a LOT of dogs when I was a kid. He hated it, but they always attacked our kids and lambs. One night, we had a dog come through and eat all the feet off our kits. It was terrible.

That I can agree with. Not so much when they're pecking my chicks so hard they get knocked over, or when they refuse to leave the chicken run to go eat ticks.
I think you had some defective guineas :lau
Like elk said raise them separate....or with a Guinea hen to imprint the proper foraging behavior.

Glad to hear it! And yes, we are pretty close (Central New Mexico). I picked Ideal largely because they are one of the closest major hatcheries. Privett is the closest but I didn't like their policies or their breed selection as much. Plus I remembered some of the people on this thread talking about ordering from Ideal. I just couldn't remember who.

The pictures I've seen of birds produced by Privett make me think you've made the right choice. Especially since you ordered a bunch of SLW. And Ideal has been in the EE biz for a hundred years or so, I wouldn't hesitate to get some of those from them. All the hatcheries are volume over quality but some are worse about it than others.

It's always acceptable to rehome an ill-tempered rooster as a "free chicken dinner". ;)
