➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

That's impressive. I used to have rabbits living under my coop. They were domesticated rabbits that had been released by their owners; my neighbours. The last one died several years ago but I enjoyed seeing them hopping around the place and wouldn't mind a few more.
The photo quality is laughable at best, but it's all I have. The rabbit's name was Benjamin.

In 2005, I would find this one in the garden. I would tell it that it knew better and that it was not supposed to be in the garden. It would take a good look at me, hop over to the far fence and crawl out under the fence. It would then sit on the other side of the garden and wait for me to walk over and talk to it.

Oh wow, where are you, if I may ask? Sounds like a great trip!!!!:thumbsup

Portland, Maine! Haha it definitely is so far! Also a big foodie and artsy town. :D

Day 2...

This is not going well.

Aw sorry.

Well this evening I went to see how DH was doing with the broody cage. I looked around and couldn't find him, so I went into the chicken coop. When I got ready to leave I realized I was locked in :barnie, so since I have very small fingers, I was able to get out after much yelling and fumbling. Then I realized I was locked in the chicken yard :he, this time I didn't bother to yell, I just fumbled my way out and went to the back door, only to find it locked :th. I had to go to the front door and bang on the door knocker to get in. DH asked where I had been. :lau:lau

OMG :lau

What broke?

Omg lol

Where you in your night shirt?

:lau

I was wondering, but wasn't sure I should ask. But then I knew Kiki would as, I just had to wait. :celebrate

:lau

I hope it's not the air conditioner. :fl

Me too

No, Thank God, I was dressed from work. :lau:lau:lau:gig

ETA: if I was in my night shirt I would have just had to sleep in the chicken coop!!

:lau

I know you like to get stuck outside half naked...I had to ask.

When DD was a little girl I picked her up from summer camp on an extremely hot day, as we walked toward the back door I said, " you know it's just us, Papa has to work late, we could just take our clothes off and jump in the pool" She looked at me like I was crazy and said, " I am going to get a bathing suit and I hope you are too!" :lau:lau

Don't you enjoy the way wild animals connect with us mere humans.....when they sense they are safe in our presence!
What a special gift.

Our wild goose pair has visited us for 19 of the 20 years we have lived here. Lucy and Goosey will walk to the barn to let us know they have arrived and want their little bit of corn or scratch grain. It took a few months, but now I am allowed within two feet of Goosey when I fill their water bucket and deposit their 1/2 cup of grain. They bring their goslings to the feeder too.
We were blessed one afternoon several years ago to host a goose family reunion...about 20 geese arrived at the feeder. Goosey announced their arrival and surprisingly the group was not afraid when Hubby and I walked down to the feeder to share corn. They lounged around, chattered, took dips in the crawdad pond and head bobbed at us.

This is the tour we did btw.

We did the harbor lights and sights cruise and the Portland city and lighthouse tour. But we did the combo package so we got the cheaper combo rate. But it was fun. Tomorrow we are thinking of doing some museums. And trying more of the many many many food options here lol

Got a light garden shower this morning and more coming this evening. Still working on transplanting Iris.
Wore myself out yesterday running the weed wacker in 88 degree temperatures. Using a cane today because my hip hurts. But a shovel and rake will replace the cane once I'm outside soon.
We have babies...Delaware bantams began hatching last night. Still have a few pips so won't take pictures of them yet.
But here are the large fowl babies that hatched yesterday... added 8 more after this photo that hatched thru the night.

The brooder set up in the hot tub room. And one of the chicks in the big brooder.

Then the duckling set up...these are Maggie's babies that hatched in May. The water set up is a plastic file box with drilled holes in the lid. A plastic flower pot bottom and a dog water dish...helps to keep the water contained and the pine shavings drier. Although wet baby ducks do preen out a lot of water. They get a clean dish full of water three times a day.

And duck eggs don't go to waste...these are boiling for the chickens....3.5 dozen.
