➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

We always get compliments on our “old lady names” for our hens so it wasn’t hard to name them lol.

Two blue wyandottes, and two silver laced.

Also, we haven’t been selling anymore since the move. It’s not a desire here in our new town, so we’re moving towards a different direction in terms of making money off the chickens but it’s a ways away still.

LOL that’s awesome!! I am so boring and basic.... :lau :hide

Mine are named....

Blackie, Beauty (named together. as in Black Beauty. Get it? Lol), Amber, Angel, Bunny, Diva, and the new chicks are Sweetpea, Little One (though my dad calls her The Colonel lol), Poppy, Peach, and Autumn. And the two adults I’ve lost were May (short for Mayflower) and Penny. Including them because they were even more unoriginal than my remaining chickens LOL new ones are at least a little more creative.

But can you guess what breeds they are? :lau :hide

Nice!!! I wanted to get silver or gold laced this time but I read so many mixed things on Wyandottes I decided not to risk it but I really wish I had haha they are gorgeous. Maybe one day when I have more space.

And ah that stinks! Hope you can find another way!

Whatever causes it is apparently hereditary, too. When I told my parents about what the professor said, my mom said my grandfather had something like this. And, I've coached my kids through it. So, yeah, at least they won't get unnecessary medications or spend any time feeling anxious about it.

And it isn't like it happens every week. I can go a year without a single episode and then have multiple attacks during a typical cold.

Oh wow that is very interesting yet very odd! But yes, at least now you can help the kids/know what they have! That is nice!

Australorps are the black ones and that’s about it for guessing. :gig

My garden was in poor shape due to a freeze on June 9th and 10th will cool soil temperatures into July. I was finally seeing progress and starting to get a few ripe tomatoes when it was again vandalized by Mother Nature with a vicious hail storm the evening of August 15th. I guess that I just wasn't meant to have a garden this year.

I have broken storm windows, a broken basement window, broken roofing panels on the greenhouse and guinea coop.

It is a rare year when I get to harvest the prune plums. It looked like I might get enough this year to make some peach and plum jam. The plums were getting their first tinges of purple. Now they are lying on the ground.

So sorry to see this kind of damage during your garden season!
Lots of chicken feed. I have a great recipe for green tomato relish.

Dang broody hen wouldn’t give up so finally I gave in. They are Wyandottes
Looks like some Silver Laced. And maybe some Blue.

Soooo cute!!!

My broody is very devoted too and I still haven’t gotten her eggs yet so I think it might be too late now since she’s already been setting so long so think I may need to get her some chicks eventually too. Or finally break her. We’ll see.

The other day I was actually a bit concerned as she got off the nest for what seemed to me like a while but then she got back on. I had let them free range while I was working out there and at first it was great, she didn’t care at all and didn’t leave the nest, and even the day before when I have them a great treat in the run, she never left, so she has been very devoted, but then my dad opened up the nest box.....I dont know how long she was out for but it seemed to be like at least an hour? But it might have been less or more than that, wasn’t really keeping track. But didn’t really seem to be too concerned! Is that normal? Or is she just a bad mom? Cause up until that point and even after she has been VERY faithfully setting!!
It is normal for a hen to take a longer than normal break from her nest once in a while.

Is it hot there? How long has she been sitting? I’m worried our broody is about to give up and I just got these chicks. :barnie

I think you and @jwyles need to get pet snakes and raise quail to feed them.
I found a King snake today in the carport...3.5 feet long. Glad hubby didn't see it. It slithered off thru the cannas.

Does Nanners have any horses?
@NanaKat
Not now. I did years before we bought the farm. I wanted to get one again. Hubby nixed the idea of horses. His daughter was 4 when she was run over by a friend's frightened horse...injury to back of her head. Thankfully nothing serious.

Oh my gosh.
Kiki, what is a twatter spotter?!?
Too funny!

After breakfast out, picked up cow feed and chicken feed.
I mowed the yard after getting the flats fixed.
Attended BIL's 50th anniversary celebration.
Hubby took me out for a steak dinner too!
Rarely eat out so this was a double treat day.

When I have an attack, it feels and sounds like I'm severely restricted in my breathing. I wheeze and cough something fierce, sometimes I vomit.

Attacks start with throat irritation so allergies can trigger it. But then so can anything that might make a person cough. Like strong smells, spicy food, a cold... even just not being coordinated with breathing and swallowing. I have choked on absolutely nothing before.

So, my throat gets irritated somehow and rather than coughing a couple times and being done like a normal person, my throat slams shut and I feel and sound like I'm being choked.

The professor gave me some reading material that said slow, controlled breathing through the nose and being calm was the way to resolve it. Basically, meditating it away. Knowing what is going on makes it much easier to not panic. And this does work for me while albuterol never did so I'm quite sure the professor was right.
That’s very interesting, thank you for sharing! I’m making mental notes, never heard of this before.
I have very typical exercise induced asthma (same as my mum), but also have unpredictable “attacks” at night that we haven’t quite figured out.
I need to see an allergist pretty soon anyway. I’m allergic to cats and probably horses. Need to get started on those lovely expensive allergy shots pretty soon for obvious reasons.
I’m really not ready to start classes again. I’m excited for the classes but I’m already so mentally tired and not prepared for the drive. I just cannot get motivated. Some motivation better happen before Monday. :th
I’m full of motivation after the conference. I’m just SO anxious. I HATE not knowing my way around a campus and having a new schedule.
Hubby told me that he wants me to get a bus pass because he’s concerned for my safety when I’m walking all the way across campus from my allocated parking lot.
Gee, that really helps my anxiety.. not.

Wow, breakfast AND dinner?! You lucky duck!
Congrats to your BIL, what a wonderful milestone. Sounds like y’all had a productive day. :)

I looked through your gallery and it was actually the cottontails that caught my eye.
I have pics of jackrabbits, ground squirrels, prairie dogs and even chipmunks too. There is even one of a Bald Eagle with a jackrabbit.
I have an idea in my head, just lacking motivation.
I am positive that @Texas Kiki will be more than happy to motivate you.
