➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Is it normal for a duck that has gone broody, sat, hatched, raised ducklings (that she we have pretty much weaned off of her for the last 2 weeks) to go broody again so quickly? She is inside the back section of the coop where the big ducks sleep sitting on eggs. :barnie I do not want more babies. The ones I have now are not quite old enough to be processed or rehomed yet. They are 8 1/2, almost 9 weeks old. I've been putting off rehoming because I only have the 1 girl and she is too young to be around horndog Noah and I don't want her to be alone. I mean, yeah, I guess I can put Noah by hisself and have the 3 girls together but that is still having 1 lone duck. Idk. Anyway. Back to my original question. Is she just like, "well since you took my babies away from me, I will make more babies?" And of course as soon as I type this, she finally comes off of the nest and is getting a drink from her pool. Instead if deleting I will just post this and am now going to go collect eggs. Not having any more babies around here! For now anyways. :barnie

Just went grocery shopping. Was gonna just get myself something for late lunch/early dinner and the Excedrin to have on hand then go home and clean but ended up getting a bunch of other stuff too. Planning on making dinner tonight haha we have a bunch of eggplant so planning on making eggplant parm. Wanted to make it earlier this week but then my dad went out of town and only just got back yesterday and I didn’t want to make it just for my mom and I cause I know my dad loves it and would have been upset if we made it without him so wanted to wait. Also didn’t have all the ingredients. Anyway, just bought the remaining ingredients, and there is another eggplant ready so we’ll now have 3 so I think tonight’s the night. Just picked two on Sunday and now this one today. Found a good recipe I’m planning on trying. It has an extra step that apparently makes it better and crispier. We’ll see.

For a brief time in December 2005, I had a fox squirrel visitor. Since it was pretty friendly and not people shy, I assumed that someone had relocated it from town. I used to enjoy seeing it daily as it seemed to like hanging out on the electric pole. Then one day I saw a Red-tailed Hawk sitting on the electric pole instead of the squirrel. I believe the hawk invited the squirrel to be the guest of honor at dinner. I never saw the squirrel again but did see the hawk for several days in a row.

This morning I saw branches moving in one of the Russian Olive trees. Upon closer inspection I spotted a big Fox Squirrel jumping around in the tree. It has been nearly 14 full years since I have had a fox squirrel visitor. Unfortunately I had 2 other uninvited guests to deal with and by the time I got a camera, I was not able to locate the squirrel again.

The other guests were of the black and white type. The young one had a thin white stripe down its back and shiny black everywhere else. The mature one had two very broad white stripes with just a thin black stripe on its back along with the normal amount of black elsewhere.

R2elk you take the prettiest pictures. And I don't even like squirrels.

I’ve never tried squirrel before. Is it good? I don’t think I’d even be able to hit one though. :lau
They are really easy to hit with a shotgun. There isn't much difference between them and rabbit. Of course you don't want to eat the little red squirrels that have been dining on pine needles. They taste like turpentine.

I don’t have a shotgun unfortunately. :/ maybe I could borrow one though haha although we are in town so may have to go hunt squirrels elsewhere. Unless a BB or air soft gun would work? I’ve never had rabbit either. :hide and I don’t think we have many red squirrels, though I know we do have them, just haven’t seen many, but we have TONS of grey squirrels running around. That and chipmunks. Soooo many damn chipmunks haha I doubt chipmunks are good eating? We have so many of the little monsters haha

A lady I used to work with always said that black squirrels tasted like Cypress balls. Now I'm sure she'd gotten ahold to some black ones that had been eating pine needles. We have tons of squirrels here, even the shermans or masked fox squirrel in some parts of Mississippi. They are really pretty to me, and they're huge.
