that's so sad that's prevention is so hard to sell there considering that it's so common. Even here in our little podunk town, with most people living off next to nothing, most everyone knows they need heartworm prevention. That's crazy to me. Treatment can be pretty hard on an
To be fair, the vaccine clinic didn’t attract the best pet owners.
We set up shop outside of CVS drug stores and the like. It brought in a lot of ghetto folks looking for the cheapest options possible for flea ridden pit bulls with spike collars and sad eyes.
Or for the puppy they had just bought off the side of the road that was most definitely not old enough to be weaned.
Like I said.. hated that job.

Oh! Yep,that's a completely different market.

I can't even begin to imagine what a horror movie called "Mudpuff" would entail.

I think It Follows is still on Netflix. It's a good time.
To be honest I thought it was a horror movie too. I was sitting here wondering why I’d never heard of this masterpiece.
:gig
Does anyone remember that brothers Grimm movie with Matt Damon and Heath Ledger? Feels like a fever dream lmao.
That one scene where the little mud monster from the well steals that little girl’s face and skips around like a freaky little weirdo.. that’s what I imagine Mudpuff is about.

I totally watched the Brothers Grimm movie... I believe you're correct. Mudpuff was featured.

Lol I saw brothers Grimm but barely remember it!

I was thinking mudpuff would be something like gremlins. But that was best case scenario. I also wondered if it wasn't some weird dead child who'd died in a weird mud related accident possessing some innocent family.

Oh I know. I meant that’s how a lot of the general public receives it.
Part of my spiel at the vaccine clinic was to show the heart from a dog that died from heartworms (we had one preserved in a jar) to try and show just how NOT invisible they are. Even after seeing hundreds of wiggly worms packed into that jar and explaining that it will KILL YOUR DOG, I’d still be accused of trying to pull a fast one on them and make a quick buck.
Like, okay dude, I make minimum wage and I’m trying to save you thousands of dollars in treatment, but go off I guess.
I hated that job.

Some people can be such cheap asses lol it’s sad when it’s their animals life though!!

My dad is a bit of a cheap ass himself and doesn’t like to spend a lot or do a lot of tests.

He’s gotten a bit better as he’s gotten older though, less of a cheap ass, more of a softie with the animals, etc :lau

But even Gator I think we only did the heart worm test like once or twice and I think only cause someone else took him and then after he was always like “he’s healthy as a horse he doesn’t need that” which he was until he got his disease but still. I don’t even know if he was on prevention. He was for a while but then we would go off it sometimes too so idk.
I did the convincing of buying it for a while though.

It’s not really common here though thank God lol

We would have been in trouble if it was.

Although that said, if it was common, I think he would have paid. It’s really not common so I think that’s part of why I had such a hard time convincing him ha

Even tonight when I said Luna should get one he said he still wasn’t convinced on that or “didn’t believe in the heartworm tests” or didn’t believe them like the results? Or something like that? Idk. And also right after said “They either have it or they don’t” so he says? I’m like.... you can’t tell just by looking at them lmao

But I think my mom is on board with it so that’ll help.

The way he said it though wasn’t like a flat out no or his usual being a cheap ass thing though, it seemed like he genuinely believed the tests didn’t work or show anything or something? I will ask him to clarify tomorrow haha

But if they won’t pay for it, I will. But I think they will. They didn’t sound against it. Just confused. My mother is actually still on the “we should just keep her inside” boat. My dad is on the other boat. The she’s happier outside boat  I’m not sure which boat I’m in. She does seem happier out there and way less depressed since we’ve been letting her out practically daily recently but I also know the dangers and of course pests so I worry ha but she’s also very smart and fast.

Anyway, all future animals, I plan on doing all tests haha

I just assumed they were less prominent in Tx. Mosquitoes are so bad here.

Mosquitoes are horrible here in spring and summer especially since we have a pond in the garden and lot of standing water but recently they’ve been spraying and the number seems to have dramatically dropped. I haven’t seen like any lately. But oddly I don’t think heartworm is that common here. But idk. Fall and winter it’s not an issue or even spring if we have a cold spring so we don’t need to do it year round like most suggest. Also I think they need a certain number of days above a certain temp don’t they? I think we like barely meet that even in summer and it’s a small window so it’s rare here. What we DO have though is tons of the other bad people diseases. EEE, West Nile, etc.

Oh wow yeah that is definitely awful :(

Oh ok! What do you have now? I'm super into fish so don't be afraid to get detailed! I've got angels, diamond tetras and corydoras similis.

I am going to hopefully be setting up the pond soon except my mom wants to actually make a hole and do it right and not above ground haha

Oh! Yep,that's a completely different market.

Definitely! The kind that treats animals like property and believes in spending as little as possible on them. :(
