➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

How much room and money do they need? Haha

Also aren’t tegus dangerous or have some chemical on their skin or something? Or is that Komodo dragons?

Are iguanas vicious or something??

Tegus need at least an 8ft long enclosure. But they will mainly use that for sleeping and basking. To give them enough space to exercise and explore I think people usually end up letting them free range in their house at least part of the time. And they are huge so you are going to be buying lots of quality produce and meat each week to feed them.

They are safe to handle though and generally well mannered if properly socialized.

And I just really do not care for iguanas personally. I feel like a lot of them are jerks.

They don’t have chemicals on their skin, but komodos have mildly venomous saliva.
It doesn’t do much. It helps to weaken large prey by festering bite wounds.
Yeah, but can you put funny little flower hats on them? I don’t think so.

Oh my gosh, Tad. :love
Methinks IV needs some more outside playtime. I always worry about parasites.

OMG that is adorable!!! :love

I can’t do that but apparently I can play them classical music. :D

Nope, he was snatched up quickly. Our shelters have a very high turnover rate.
I have to remind myself often that in reality, I’m not the best owner in the world, and there are hundreds of other homes that would be perfect for him as well. He is happy wherever he ended up.

I would go hungry if it meant providing for another dog, but I don’t have the time and energy right now. Same for a ferret.

That’s awesome! Some shelters they euthanize so many :hit

And aww I’m sure you’re a great owner! :hugs

And yeah, I’m the same way haha I’d rather sleep in my car than move somewhere I couldn’t take a dog or cat but thankfully don’t have to worry about that atm. I’d love goats or sheep as well as quail but it’s a lot of time and money I don’t really have atm. Well, quail are hopefully happening soonish, but goats and sheep, I’d have to build a whole barn or run in shed and buy fencing and everything so it’s a lot of expense and I have better uses for my money right now. Plus I’d probably suck at caring for it. Although oddly I find I am better at care for farm animals than I am for small caged indoor animals haha

Oh yes, impractical in the sense that shitty impulse buyers are now destroying Florida’s ecosystem with them.

It was cool. I’ve always wanted a tegu or an ackie.
Someday.

That and anacondas! :hit

And wait what is an ackie? Haha

I do worry sometimes about her getting into something toxic or something else bad happening but ....once we got her used to going outside she seemed to really enjoy it. A lot. And our climate is perfect for her in summer: sunny, hot, and dry. So I try to take her out a few times a week. Some days she rides on my shoulder while I do chicken chores. Other days we will go sit in the yard somewhere and she explores while I read boring stuff for school. It’s fun! We eventually go back inside once I start to melt

Oh the only downside is that she almost always poops as soon as we come back inside. So if I am not careful she will poop in my lap :sick

Huh, I thought I saw something in a documentary once that said they are very dangerous and aggressive and will kill you and the saliva was extremely toxic/dangerous and you’d die if they hit you or touched you with it. But maybe that was wild Komodo dragons or maybe that was completely wrong lol

And OMG yes take her outside!

Iguanas are like parrots..

Huh... interesting. They do seem rather bad tempered lol

Do even little parrots like parakeets and cockatiels hate you!? Or just huge ones? I doubt they really hate you!!

Ew gross lol

I think you misunderstood me.. I KNOW I’m a great owner, lol.
I meant that I don’t kid myself by pretending like I would be the ONLY good owner for every mangey puppy I see.
It helps to keep the “bleeding heart syndrome” in check when you work in rescue.

Yes... completely wrong.
Gila monsters have an infamous excruciatingly painful bite, but rarely deadly. Maybe that’s what you saw.

I have a mutual dislike for parrots in general.

She went outside with me recently and loved it.
But then she started attacking a clump of weeds like a little bulldog and I got paranoid about pesticides and dog poop and that ended that.
