Awww I love snakes :love

Pretty color too!!

We moved from MN to TN. I get my winter coat out about once every five years. It's usually too warm for down. But, they do get scary bad ice storms here. I'd take a foot of snow over an inch of ice ANY time.

Once every five YEARS!? :th

And UGH yes ice is the worst!! I’d much rather have snow too. Pretty and usually doesn’t coat the power lines, trees, etc. unless it’s real heavy. Power outages from ice get annoying ha that and black ice. I always worry about black ice. And I hate when the snow starts melting and refreezing and turns to ice. Gets all slippery and dangerous. I can’t imagine entire ice storms. :th

Also with snow and cold at least you can always add more layers lol

:gig :gig :gig

No silly mr Sam, if its 60 when i wake up then im good as itll get round 70 noontime But if its 50 in the warmest part of the day im gonna be hermiting. Yes thats cold to me idc who laughs but when its 30* i dont go outside for more than a few minutes. Wont do it. Donno how ima handle 100 birds this year. I jus plain dont like it. Of course we might have days like that in Dec and Jan too tho so just a matter of proper timing :lau

Also you wont hear me complain about the heat. Yes it is hot. I like it Thata way.

I will admit that even 50s and 40s is a little bit nippy for me and usually requires a light (note LIGHT) jacket BUT even 30 feels hot in the middle of winter. :lau

Heck, it may even be time to break out the tee shirts. :lau

And I guess we both complain in our own ways, just about different things lol

I melt in the heat. Hate it. Despise it. Dripping sweat just from walking outside. Getting dehydrated/migraines just from being outside an hour or less. On especially humid/muggy/gross days, feeling like you can’t breathe, sweat running down your back and yes butt :lau  immediately after stepping outside and probably being able to fill buckets with it, having to shower a trillion times a day cause your face gets that icky greasy/clammy/muggy/nasty/dirty feeling to it within about 2 seconds...

Nooooo thank you!!

And even dry heat.... still roasting in the sun and it’s way stronger out there too and feel like it’s hotter than 10,000 suns shining directly on you.

Nope. No way.

Plus icky creepy crawlies all over the place.

Ew.

Cold? Snow? Give me snow any day over that crap lol

It’s pretty and nice to look at. And also you can do so many fun things without roasting and sweating buckets!! For example: snow ball fights, building snowmen, sledding, skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing, DOG SLEDDING, snow mobiling, skijoring, and of course, drinking hot chocolate and sitting by fires all without roasting. Cross country skiing is a bit too much work for me but alpine/downhill is a lot of fun.

And did I mention it’s pretty?

You can even eat it. :D

There are of course some downsides:

  • Scraping your car off in the mornings is a huge pain in the ass. Also gotta wait for the windshield to defrost too and/or scrape the ice off yourself. And wait for it to warm up so you don’t freeze inside. Of course garages solve all these problems especially if they’re heated or if you cover your car but we don’t do any of those things and don’t even keep the cars in our garage :lau so scraping it is. Huge pain. Also gotta get all the snow off the roof and back so you can see and so it doesn’t come sliding down onto your windshield and blind you while driving or fly off the back and blind another car. I think it’s also illegal to leave it on for those reasons.
  • Also you can’t just throw on some gym shorts, a tee shirt, sneaks or flip flops, and walk out the door. You gotta take the time to put on a whole damn costume lmao huge pain the ass. I’m talking big huge winter coat, snow pants if there’s snow (or regular pants if they’re not but still. I hate long pants and they take longer to put on lol), gloves or mittens, hat, ear muffs if your hat doesn’t cover your ears but I like the fuzzy bomber hats that do lol), socks (and they have to be thick to keep your toes warm which I hate thick socks and I hate wool which most of the thick or high quality socks seem to be made of which is a definite downside), winter boots (which are big, clunky, ugly pains in the ass, and even the women’s ones are annoying and they also don’t fit me lol and also the liner in most of the boots in addition to most thick socks means my feet sweat a lot/get way too warm which I hate), possibly a face mask and/or neck warmer and/or scarf too if it gets too cold, possibly long johns (long underwear) or long sleeve shirts or even a sweater/lighter jacket under the winter coat if it’s particularly cold. See how long this list is just to even walk out the door? Can sometimes take 15, 20 minutes or even half hour, hour if you’re slow like me, just to get fully dressed and ready to step outside lmao and the boots suck to walk in. And you usually roast under all the layers but too cold to take them off.
  • The dry heat from the heaters and in most buildings/stores and general stuffiness of the indoor air usually also gives me a migraine or at least dries my eyes out which often leads to one and also makes me feel like crap. Also my hands get super cracked, dry, bloody in winter usually.
  • Honestly the cold can admittedly be a little bone chilling and uncomfortable but that’s what fires and layers are for lol
But even with all these downsides, I STILL would choose our winters over your heat and humidity any day or any form of heat and sun whatsoever. The cold can be kinda bone chilling, I do love the warmth and nice cuddly feeling of standing in the sun during the warmer months, but it’s both worth the buckets of sweat and the severe dehydration I always get even when I try to stay hydrated lol

Sorry for the novel. :lau

I'll be complaining about the cold but not until January.

:lau

Tbh I’ll probably be complaining then too lol but I still honestly prefer winter.

Although during bad storms you also have to wait for the roads and your driveway to be plowed and salted before going anywhere but honestly being stuck inside during snow storms is kind of fun. :D

It’s cuddly/cozy and there’s fires and hot chocolate and books and board games or cards and candles if the power goes out lol

Also...

I’ve always said, at least in winter or with cold you can always add more layers or get some blankets. With summer/heat, you can only take so many clothes off.... :lau

Well im covered :highfive:

I had another cat we named "History Furry Balls" and called him "History." Was hilarious til Grandma asked how we came up with that
Too funny! :lau

No pity, im good with it-- old news. When i laugh, when i sneeze, when i cough... :D really its not that bad, im exaggerating but thats why panty liners are a regular thing on shelves everywhere.
I should have bought stock in them when they hit the market. Would have made a fortune!

Let me tell you, it takes balls of steel to stare down an aggressive, x-large Australorp rooster when you've forgotten to wear shoes outside...
Yes, and it helps to have the water hose in your hand too.

Don't let your cucumbers get too big.

Made me laugh out loud. I always find some with a light yellowing of the skin. I collect them to make Senfengurken pickles...old recipe...has horse radish in it...no seeds, just the peeled flesh. Son in law loves them...great with roast, fish, or venison.

Thanks! That helps. I think they are just a generic burpless kind? Idk. The card said “burpless bush hybrid” and the giant one was the same except climbing instead of bush. Except to me they almost look like two different types of cucumbers. Based on that info page, the burpless ones are okay to eat larger? Although we had another huge one a few weeks ago from the same plant (though not quite as big as this) and my dad didn’t like it/said it was bitter so idk. I guess I will try it myself and see. I like your idea of cutting it up with dressing too. That sounds good. Or I was thinking of maybe making a cucumber melon salad or something.
Reduce the bitterness by cutting a slice off the stem end of a fresh picked cucumber and the rub those two cut edges together in a circular motion. The bitter liquid will actually make a foam that you can rinse off.
We take big cukes and make refrigerator pickles. Simply peel, remove seeds and cut in chunks. Put in a quart jar with 2 tsp sugar (optional), 1 tsp canning salt, 5 peppercorns, sliced garlic clove, diced quarter of an onion and fill to cover with white vinegar. Screw on a lid and put in the fridge. Good to add to a salad or beside a sandwich.

I’m so tired lately :th

All I wanna do is sleep lol but don’t worry, I have not been doing that. Instead, I have been forcing myself to do stuff and not do that. Planning on making pickles tomorrow since we have tons of cucumbers the perfect size for it. :D

Just need to get some jars and maybe a canner. Idk. Can I just use a regular pot? Though it said I needed a rack I think? And an air bubble remover thingy and stuff.
You can use a big stew pot with a lid for a water bath canner. Needs to be taller than the jars you are using because the water bath should be an inch higher than the top of the jars.
Let me know if you need recipes. I make several kinds of Dill pickles, a Kosher dill, Sweet pickles, bread and butter pickles, and the Senfengurken.

Had a wonderful date night with hubby. Looong overdue.
Waitress butchered our order but we got a lot of free food.
So excited to go to Lowe’s tomorrow.

Any furniture experts here?
Tomorrow I want to strip and re-stain the furniture thing. I’ve watched a couple videos but I still have no idea what I’m doing lol.
Does paint stripper have horrible fumes?

Thank you!! This is all very helpful!! That trick is fascinating and I never knew that!! Thanks!

And yeah some of mine always seem to be a bit yellow or pale even when small. I think it’s from sitting in the grass cause it’s usually only on the bottom.

And those Senfengurken ones sound really interesting!!

And I looooooovvvveeeeee bread and butter pickles. :love

And the others sound good too!!

Always good to have a couple more recipes haha

Awesome!! Sounds fun!! And free food is always good!! :D

And yes horrible!! LOL

DH says "yes" and "use it outdoors"

X2!!! And also maybe a face mask or respirator or something unless you want to get high from the fumes which could be a wild ride ;) :lau

Get you a set of plastic scrapers too and lots of rags. Scrapers will make quick work of removing the paint. Dont wipe the paint off with the rags if you can cause rag pressure has a tendency to push the paint into the grain like when you use rags to seal it.
