➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

You are NOT SUPPOSED TO BE SHOPPING WITH YOUR PHONE IN YOUR HAND!
You are still at Walmart right?
Get the poison and traps NOW.

I wasn’t at the time I posted that. I was eating at Subway. Only said I was at Walmart because the Subway is in Walmart. But I did use it a little bit in the store too but not as much as usual and did find the poison and a few other things and get out. Although the poison/traps took a while to find. They really didn’t have anything. Everything was for gophers or mice. Did find a little bit of bait though so got that. Might have to get some more tomorrow since it’s not much, 2 stations, but going to start with just that. I think we might have some traps around anyway.

Besides what @Tesumph said, this is one of my tricks.
Rats and mice can go thru any hole big enough for its head to pass through.
Cut a hole in the lid of a cottage cheese container or a lid for a plastic coffee can. The hole is smaller than your chickens head.
Put a chunk of rat poison in the container, snap on the lid and put the container in places you know are infested. Check it daily to see if anything is eating the bait and replenish as necessary.
The critters take the bait back to their tunnels for babies too.

We can get Tomcat at our feed stores. I get the economy size because we have several barns with storage.
I do not set these containers where my barn cats are because I've been told that cats eating mice that are poisoned might make the cat sick.

Once you see a rat, chances are there is a colony. Act quickly because they multiply faster than rabbits.
Poison isn’t my favorite, but I know it can be the only option for large infestations.
I would encourage anyone who has to use it to research which poison they have on hand (there’s 4 different types, if I remember correctly?). At the very least: what to do if a pet gets into it, signs of poisoning, and how it actually kills the rodent (some are more humane than others).

I like knowing the snap traps are instantaneous. I’m something of an expert rodent trapper at this point.. somehow being the animal kid means you’re also the one on pest control duty. How does that work?

I don’t think it is a large infestation as I have never seen one until today but

And yeah I think I would prefer instantaneous. I don’t wanna have to hunt down dead rats later. :sick

And thankfully I have never had to be in charge of that haha have trained all the animals though and do all the care and stuff.

Are you sure it was rats and not large mice?
Not trying to be patronizing.. a lot of people can’t tell.

I would guess they’re just enjoying the cozy shed with all its hiding spots and a belly full of chicken scratch every night.
