➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Maybe these dogs will have a better life now. :fl

More than likely, the reality for those dogs is no future. They will most likely be euthanized. I'm not being all doom and gloom. That really is the likely scenario. A couple of dogs that are known to kill a bunch of animals will be viewed as an instinct that they'd be hesitant to allow to carry on to possibly happen again. Although I am not psychic nor am I involved but... I believe I am correct. It is a sad fate. If the owners would have been responsible, it could have been prevented. The owners surrendering the dogs to AC is moot. They probably think they won't face any trouble since they no longer own the dogs. They will find out otherwise if the neighbor continues to pursue for damages. I hope they do. It will be a tough lesson for the dog's owners to learn and I hope they do learn from it.

I don't know a thing about ducks molting... Are you sure nothing tried to attack her?

I posted in the duck forum as well. Miss Lydia agrees with my assessment of it being a hard moult. This is my first yr with it though. I swear she dropped her feathers in 1 day, it seems like. It was just like, BOOM! And then gone. The poor girl. She told me to up their protein by giving some cat or dog food with their duck feed, but that it has to be a quality feed. Not one with a bunch of fillers.

In that case, the poor dogs. :( sadly you’re probably right. And that makes me more mad at the owners that they would surrender them knowing that. But maybe they truly didn’t know. Some people think they’ll always be rehomed and don’t think about euthanasia being an option. Or they just don’t care. In this case, they probably don’t care. Anyway, you’re probably right BUT I also think things are turning around somewhat in some areas and they don’t always euthanize dogs right away now or deem them bad dogs, especially if it was just prey driven and not true aggression, like an attack on kids or other dogs or something, even though it’s obviously still terrible, so maybe they will just rehome them to someone without small animals and/or more experience?? Sometimes they do that now and the dogs can be great dogs as long as they’re kept away from prey. I hope that is the case. :fl if not, your neighbor probably should have just shot them and spared them the trauma of being caught and winding up in a shelter/dumped first :(

It was a lot of birds so maybe that won’t be the case. :/

And I hope the owners still get in big trouble and pay for being so irresponsible!!!

And also, I want to apologize since it probably seems like I’m sympathizing with the dogs or something, what happened was obviously horrible and awful and I really feel for you and the other owners, but I also do feel bad for the dogs for having such irresponsible owners.

Some birds just mold harder than others. My Easter Egger is having a terrible molt this year lol

Poor girl! It’s always sad when they look like they exploded overnight.
Kitten food and pond fish food are good sources of protein. I would probably avoid dog food.

When my flock goes through a hard molt, I open up a big tin of tuna and let ‘em at it.

I believe I have some tuna in the cupboard. I believe my little Luna will be getting a nice treat of tuna in the morning. I could always put the basket in my creek and catch some minnows. I forget about the trap we have.

My turkeys normally have a soft molt and later in the year. This year they are having hard molts right now. What kind of winter is coming?

I had a visitor this evening that told me that Montana is expected to get 60" of snow next week.

This is my ducks 1st molt. I mean, my drake had a soft one where he shed his gray feathers from winter and they were replaced by brown. I guess I was thinking she probably did at that time as well. Boy was I wrong. She looks pitiful! LOL My other duck hen doesn't look like she is going through hers yet and is still laying an egg every day. So I guess that is something that I will be looking for.

As for winter.... I am worried. I think we are going to have a very rough winter. I hope I am wrong. :fl

But we are having record heat temps right now. I don't think it will carry in to winter tho for it to be a mild one. I think it is going to be a year of extremes.

I think tuna and minnows sounds like an excellent idea! :D
