➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

OMG that’s amazing!! So do you pick up locally then!? Or do you still order?? And yeah, from what I’ve seen at various places it’s not too expensive to buy the young ones but then when you start getting into wanting to buy breeding adults it gets crazy.
I pick them up myself if I can. It’s a small business run by college girls and they can be a little hard to get ahold of. Sometimes it’s faster just to order them.
I will probably order again. I liked their combo options. But I requested a refund rather than replacement order this time. I got plenty of other bugs for Hoshi to eat and I don’t want to have to trek to the post office e again next week.

Very cool that you have a local source of bsfl! Hoshi tried those last night for the first time. He was unsure about the first one, but gobbled all the others right up.

I am a big fan of dubi deli for dubias. And DH is planning on starting a colony next year using their supplies. But all the roaches we have on hand right now are sized for Tad and too big for Hoshi. Plus I wanted to order a variety of items for Hoshi to try so I went with rainbow. The stuff I did get was all in good shape, they just forgot the roaches. I will probably still order from rainbow for some things (they do offer an impressive selection) but stick with DD for roaches.
I see! If you’re looking for variety then that is a neat deal.
I’d be satisfied to only feed dubies and bsfl for the rest of my life (as would the girls). But, we’ll still grab a bag of crickets and whatever else is in stock when we buy dog food. Keeps it interesting!
I can’t stand crickets but it does get the girls moving. :)

Ahh okay. That makes sense!! Too bad they’re not easier to get ahold of since they’re so close aha

We have a similar strategy with Tad. She mainly eats roaches, but we pick up a small container of worms (meal, super, or wax) from time to time for variety.

I am just so excited about Hoshi! I might have gone a bit overboard buying new things for him to try haha. He was raised on mealies so it has been fun letting him try other things. But some (particularly bsfl) are hard to find locally so online ordering will continue to be necessary :hmm

Also, recent talk of tail swishing geckos has made me think I should get Hoshi some crickets. I just hate them so much! :barnie

Maybe you could just buy one of the little small containers they sell at the pet stores that only have a few? That way he could get some but it’d only be one meal so you wouldn’t have to keep them a long time or anything haha

Yeah that would be best. There is a place just down the street that sells small amounts.

And it will probably be easier to feed them to Hoshi than Tad. Tad’s tank has lots of places for bugs to hide, plus her background is cork bark. So if you didn’t supervise the feeding, then the crickets would climb to the top to get away. I had to keep knocking them down like whack-a-mole. It was annoying.

That sounds amazing!! Definitely get some from there then! :D

And oh wow that does sound annoying lol

Definitely feed them to Hoshi!! He deserves it. :D

This is why I hate them. Even if you only buy enough for a day or two, they’re still a royal pain in the butt.
They’re suicidal and will flock to any water source to plunge themselves into and drown, or find the smallest cracks to wedge themselves in and get crushed. And there’s ALWAYS a male that escapes and hides in the tank that will inevitably start chirping at 3am.
And they smell like mildew and farts.

This post is 100% accurate. Crickets are the worst.
