I was going to post this but you beat me to it.

My cousin is a vet and has a story that she was at a clinic where they were fixing strays (trap/neuter/return situation, they assembly line prep the cats) and they made the incision on a calico but then couldn't find the uterus and they had to examine the cat again and found it was a boy that had already been neutered. They were able to scan for a chip and found his owner, it had been lost for a while.

You can paint literally anything on one. You don’t have to make a complex egg doll or whatever.
