➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I think she would, I just don't want to see her hurt in the process.

Just a thought.......
Do you have a larger laundry basket or hamper?
Thinking if you can lower it over her it might delay the rat getting to her. Then in the morning lift it off of course.

A wire cage would be better but may not be available.

She is fairly safe, the occasional rat does find his way in and DH will fix that Saturday. Thank you for the idea, will have wire cage where she is by Saturday night, she refuses to stay on a nest anywhere else. little brat.

Broody hens :barnie.

I have a stubborn Aussie that is very likely to be offered chicks soon. Sitting same nest for 18 days now.

I'm thinking too much. :barnie

I'm wondering if there is a way to set up my laptop next to the bator and leave it on a LIVE so I can keep an eye on them while I am in the other room or say at the grocery store?

So I need to figure out if 24 hour lives are even possible and how I am going to rig the computer in the correct position.

Sorry, not quite caught up, but had to add my 2 cents...can use a FREE baby monitor app that works off WiFi. Some really work well!!! Great way to monitor any babies. I've done so! Gardening with a sleeping newborn or at work wanting to check in. But you need a second device instead of that laptop to run most of them. Tablet or other smartphone. HTH!!! G2G... back to page 325 of 520! Take that, all you post-skippers!!! :lau JK

Think oatmeal. I always thought of porridge as a British thing due to many references to it in nursery rhymes of old. Loosely, porridge could be any starchy grain cooked in water or milk or combination thereof. Oats, wheat, corn, barley, rice, buckwheat. I imagine even millet and quinoa can be used. Polenta and grits are other examples.

Shipped balut would be DOA.
We have 20 places that fit the category "Asian Grocery Stores". Every one I've shopped at carries balut eggs. However, I doubt they all do. Some are too small and others don't cater to that market like the Indian and Pakistan grocers.
I love me some South Park/Fairplay, CO.
Denver has a bunch of them. Little Saigon, Viet Hoa and Tay Do may have baluts, but don't expect them to hatch.

Where are they coming from?

I know that ducks and geese sometimes spend more time off the nest than chickens but you can candle and incubate all you want. Grocery store balut eggs will never hatch.
I refer back to my original post on this thread.

"I'm confused here. Can someone on this busiest of threads tell me how it is possible to hatch balut eggs? I mean, after all, who would incubate their duck eggs from the start for 15-20 days, pull them out of the incubator, put them in the refrigerator for a week or more, warm them up again and expect the embryo to still be alive?"

I love that. We had it a lot when I was growing up.

Unless you are actually IN SE Asia, they won't still be alive when boiled.

Truly, TRULY sorry about your dog!!!!!!! :hit
