➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Update:
My dad's blood panels came back good and his EKG's are abnormal but okay. He did not have a heart attack but they have not ruled out a blockage.
He has been admitted and they're waiting for the results of the cardiologist stress test. He is tired but in good spirits.

We just got home with Triumph. He is very tired and still nauseous, but he was able to sit up when he saw me and was whining to go home. Improvement from yesterday when he was limp and could barely open his eyes.
He will have to be on a new [expensive] food for his kidneys from now on. The vet said there is a good chance this will eventually happen again and he will need more fluids to get back on his feet.

And not that I really care at all right now-- but my advisor has been disappointingly useless and unhelpful.
He finally replied to my emails yesterday and told me I might be put in classes tomorrow. Ridiculous.
Good to hear from you! Will continue to keep your family in my prayers.
Great news on your dad! A blockage can be fixed quickly without the major incisions like in years past. My sister has a stint...took all if 30 minutes...big improvement for her.
Triumph sounds to be improving with the fluids. Is he on meds for the nausea! I can easily visualize his reaction to seeing you. Sure hope the new diet helps those kidneys and he quickly regains strength.
Sorry to hear about the school stress. The uncertainty is frustrating enough without having an inept advisor.
:hugs:hugsAsk The Ginger to hug you for me.:hugs:hugs

@FortCluck I am sorry for raising the specter of biosecurity earlier and I hope I did not make you feel attacked or unwelcome. I admit I can be a bit paranoid about disease. But I also acknowledge that all methods of obtaining birds have pros and cons. There is no perfect answer. All we can do is weigh the options and do what we think is best. The swap you described sounds like a great community.
Don't worry about me  No feelings hurt and I didn't feel attacked. I just think some swaps aren't great in other people's areas so it's nice to share my experience. I know who to stay away from.

HeiHei's breeder was one who watches his flock closely and cares for them better than I care for my own. I'll always get chicks from him. The Orpington mix and Easter Egger mix chicks are doing great so far.

The people I buy eggs from that are local have very healthy flocks. The one that gave me 3 dozen eggs has a lot of my roosters. He loves roosters. The other is an organic farm and they have helped us in planning the big picture of our future farm. They breed dual purpose goats so I can't wait to get to that point.

I mostly stay local, but the swaps are always nice for me to get out of the house and meet some people who have the same interests as us. Plus it's great to get breeders numbers or emails so I can get ahold of them at a later time.

Thanks for the info Nana! :bow Looks like I will be making some modifications to my run in the spring
Bantams can fly over an 8 foot fence :D Blue Footed Booby does it daily, but she knows to fly back over. HeiHei did it one time and went into the woods so we had to chase him down. That was the last time he tried to fly over. I'm a bare handed chicken catching pro :lau

This reminds me that I was supposed to clip wings last night!!! Guess they've got another day of flying over the fences....

It looked complicated when I saw them all laid out!!! Looked like work, with me being a nurse!
All done :D had to stop my bachelor show because the hubs called
