➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Nasty hawks scoping out my poor little faker chickens 😤😤😤
Had to get them put away quick! Maybe no more free ranging for a little while 😥
Ugh they seem to like the fakers. They tried to steal my bantam polish and she beat one up and got away. She’s a tough bird. She’s a feral that was from someone’s farm and she wound up here.

Keep them in for a week or so and wait for the hawk(s) to move on.

I had a little tiny hawk get 5 of my faker chickens over the winter. The problem stopped when we made the poultry net pen narrower so the hawk couldn't see where to swoop down from. That has to be why we didn't have any problems before, the birds where in a narrow field and the netting blocked the sightline from the trees to the birds.

Anyone know or can point me to a thread about being able to determine gender for chicks that are from a silkie rooster with either polish or Cochin hens? I thought I recall seeing something somewhere about the black skin from the dad being passed to the daughters but not sons, so that cross created sexable chicks, but now I can't remember where I saw that.
