➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I'm so sorry!! We all know you love your babies and accidents DO happen!

I'm so damn clumsy...I KNOW I'd have some egg cracking casualties on a semi regular basis if I attempted hatching anything.
Thank you. I appreciate it. I'm so clumsy that so far I haven't completed a single hatch without at least 1 cracked egg each time

Day two.
All three are alive.

:celebrateYay!! That’s great! I hope they keep going! :fl
My broody has two more babies from her “fluctuating temp nest” this morning. Yay!
I went to check on them last night and saw an angry mom trying to kill (insert expletives ) fire ants that made their way into her nest box and INTO the two newly pipped eggs. Ugh!
I moved momma and the one chick from the other day into a different box. I had to chip away half the egg shell on the two pipped eggs so I could kill the few fire ants that were in them.
I must have caught it just in time because they are okay this morning. A little weak (they did have a rude start to life) but they found their way out of the rest of the egg shell and look okay to make it. :fl
So at midnight (when I found all this) I sprayed the coop with tempo, soaked the ground and around the nest boxes. No ants this morning. I hate those terrible things.
Momma hen is doing well, still sitting on the other eggs with her three babies. She’s a trooper.

Wow you got lucky finding them at the right time. I giggled when I read the time....who goes out to check on their chickens at midnight. Only a crazy chicken lady.

Lol! I’m totally a crazy chicken lady. :rolleyes:These are Jeraldo’s (my white crested black polish roo) first little babies here. Just some “barnyard mutts,” but I can’t stop checking on them. So yeah, there I was in my backyard at midnight with a flashlight and a two gallon sprayer full of revenge.
