➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I had a hatching nightmare last night and I blame BYC and this thread!

I dreamed I had 2 broody hens sitting on 2 nests. Whenever I checked on them there were more hatched chicks and less eggs and then I spotted an unusual egg, and carnage, there was a lizzard that hatched from one of the eggs and was eating the remaining chicks and attacking the chickens! The. There was the mama lizzard which was the size of a large crocodile that was running around and attacking people!

No movement at all? It looked like there might be veins on a couple of these.
Well I don't see movement like I did in the dancing duck eggs for sure, but there is some movement. The moment I am seeing is just me moving the egg which is causing the thing inside to move along with it.

So...no, no movement. I didn't kill the eggs this time though.
I am pretty sure I bought dead chicken balut eggs.

That was a disappointing part 2, but I guess still good for you because you got your new bator figured out before you get your quail!
YES!
Once I finish my fake cup of coffee I am going to "do" the eggs outside.
Then I am going to set the rest of the quail eggs that I bought for your taste test.
JUST to play with the temps and humidity again today.

These quail eggs are just for decoration while I do some testing of the bator.
They have been in the refrigerator for a whole week and they were actually in the refrigerator section of The Man's store, not sitting on the counter next to the balut eggs.

Balut lizard eggs!
:barnie

:lau Did you wake up sweating?

The humidity reader is threaded into a cotton fabric tube that also goes into the water well. It wicks up moisture in the cotton fabric and the stem of the thermometer gauges the humidity. The temperature stem is placed to the stem of the thermometer is egg high.

I had originally read @NanaKat 's message on my phone. I missed an important part of her message.
SO Nan it's not JUST a regular meat thermometer that is reading the humidity...it is a modified meat thermometer, with this cotton fabric tube??

I still don't get it but it makes more sense this morning.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. I'll say that I've put eggs that looked pretty much like egg 1 back in the incubator at the 14 day mark and they've gone on to hatch. Then again, I was confident I had a fertile egg that was being incubated correctly, not some cold egg from a Man, so I wasn't scrutinizing them that closely.

You are never going to get the same viewing clarity with a dark brown egg that you will have with a white egg. For Balut 3, look for white shelled eggs.

I have only seen these white duck eggs and then these brown chicken eggs.
I don't think they have white chicken balut eggs.
