➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I like using local farmers who are PIP certified, would rather take an hour or so drive than have them shipped. I am just funny that way. Have used Cypress Duck farm before for pullets with great success. So will probably take a ride down there later this week if all goes well. @Kikiksgirls have you decided to try Balut duck eggs again or are you looking on E bay for chicken eggs now? (did I miss something?) Could be both for you!! LOL
I'm doing balut duck eggs again...just waiting on The Man to text me when the new shipment arrives. I'm just looking for quail eggs...seeing what is available.

Sounds like this will be a long going and interesting as well as informational Thread, looking forward to continuing to follow. Thanks for starting it. Even if I am on this site when I should be doing other, "more Important?" things. :lau:lau

How are you locating these farmers? I would like to do the same, but am having a devil of a time finding reputable eggs sellers that I can drive to. There's always craigslist, but I have no idea what I'm really getting.

There are local boards in the social section so you can find other BYCers near you. Go to "where am I? Where are you!" and find the thread for your state/region. People don't advertise things for sale but if you ask if anyone has what you're looking for, they are free to message you about it without violating any rules.

That isn't guaranteed to be a perfect transaction but word spreads quickly if someone mistreats another so there's that.

I think it's better in the uk tho looking for hatching eggs don't have so much distance to travel compared to the USA. would love some domonique (I bet that ain't spelled right) but can't find anyone here in the UK that does them.

Lot's of research on the internet. In South Louisiana and Mississippi we have lots of farmers who raise chickens (among other livestock) and some have web sites, so you can check them out and even read reviews in some cases. I would check with your State Thread, and because Cali is so large may take some time to narrow it down to driving range for you. Good luck, hope you find someone local you are happy with. Cypress Duck farm does ship chicken eggs and Dan Barger is a lovely man. Although that's a long way to ship. IMHO

That surprises me, as I have always thought UK was more liberal than US when it came to keeping chickens. (Am I showing my ignorance?)
