➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I had a hatching nightmare last night and I blame BYC and this thread!

I dreamed I had 2 broody hens sitting on 2 nests. Whenever I checked on them there were more hatched chicks and less eggs and then I spotted an unusual egg, and carnage, there was a lizzard that hatched from one of the eggs and was eating the remaining chicks and attacking the chickens! The. There was the mama lizzard which was the size of a large crocodile that was running around and attacking people!
Umm whatever you ATE before bed last night I suggest you never eat before bed again..shivers

I'm really hoping I have at least one broody this year. My beautiful avatar hen was my most excellent broody hen for 4 brooding seasons. She would usually go broody first, and then others would follow, inspired by her example I think. I lost her, along with 2 other broody hens, in the terrible bobcat attack last December. I only have 1 hen left who went broody last year, along with 4 new hens who may or may not have the instinct.

At times having multiple broodies was a huge hassle, but seeing the little chicks snuggling under mom made it all worth it.

Get OUT. There is a patron saint of chickens???!!!

Wow. I am so heading to Google this, right now. Bridget must have been looking after my little one when she got attacked by a hawk last week...
DD had to do a paper on a saint years ago and she wanted to do someone different from the "usual" Saints people tend to do at her school and we had just gotten chickens. So she looked up the patron St. of chickens and did a paper on this Irish Saint of chickens. LOL
