It is best. The cow won't put anything in the milk that it didn't eat. But the margarine makers put all kinds of stuff. The thing that always got me, if margarine tastes just like butter and butter is available, why not eat butter?

Did you hear about the kid with development problems? He was on a low fat diet. A nurse suggested a high fat diet after all the other treatments failed. At her wit's end, the mother tried it and the kid turned around. Seems you need fat to develop correctly.
Speaking as a Nurse, no child under the age of 4 years old should ever be given low fat products. Kids from birth to about 4 need fat to myelinate nerve fibres especially in the brain. And the process that they use to remove fat from milk products causes acne in teens and some adults. Healthy fats are a good thing as some vitamins need fat to be absorbed into the body. All IMHO and real medical research.

I agree with the what would Grandma eat diet, perhaps with a few fewer carbs as I don't work as hard as my Grandma did.

Thanks for posting this!

We all need to have healthy fats. Restricting fat and adding carbs to the food pyramid may have contributed to Alzheimer disease too

Grandma would eat anything in moderation, just remember she would probably make the peanut M&M from scratch and clean up the kitchen when she was done as well, all while cleaning Grandpa's clothes with a wringer washing machine if Grandpa was doing well, by hand if not. She could eat a few peanut M&Ms while the clothes dried and start dinner before she started to iron everything she had just washed and dried on the line outside. Need I say more?

When I say what would grandma eat, I am referring to about 100 or so years back, not the 1950's. When people began really eating junk like TV dinners. I am referring to my Grandma who kept chickens, and a pig in her backyard for meat (also grandpa hunted game and fished for household meat) all while living in the city of New Orleans. They raised a pig in the city every year and took care of sending it to freezer camp themselves every year. Life was hard work, even in the city!
