➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

They've got a pair of mini jennet's named Silk and Satin, guys .. why is Colorado too far away??
Sounds like a nice long weekend ride through the country, to pick her up. You would have to map out the way back for her lodging. Wish I could have a horse or donkey, but stabling here is as expensive as renting an apartment. :hit

Nope. Just too far .. I could have them shipped, but getting that approved by DH is another story. They are soooooo adorable.

Our real horses .. that we bought a house for to keep at home since it was cheaper than boarding. The bay is mine and sorrel is DD's.

However .. getting the property for the horses led me to getting chickens to help take care of the bugs that irritated the horses ..

and here we are.

Minis are used for showing also. There is a huge show market for them and they can be really expensive. The breeder that I bought one of my horses from had minis for showing. Less expensive to feed and take care of. Everything is smaller from the tack to the trailers used to haul them. Most minis get overfed and look like little round butterballs but the show minis that win the highest awards actually look like well proportioned horses - in miniature. Like others said, they can be less intimidating, so cute to watch too. A mini horse bucking is one of the cutest things to watch. It's probably the wow factor too - "wow! Did you see that??"

Haha!! That's how it goes right? Yeppers. I bought some small acreage so that I had room for my horses at my house and now have goats to clean the brush and be companions for the horses.

:gigWe're in the process of expanding their pasture to 3 acres and plan on adding goats this year. Part the lot is wooded and I want the goats in there to keep it tidy. Plus DS, who doesn't ask for much, asked if we could get goats. How can I deny the boy??! We're planning on putting in 5 wire high tensile with a 1.2 joule charger. How do you keep your goats in??

I'm using 4' tall "goat" fencing. It came in rolls of 350' from the local farm store and using 6' T-posts. Then using a chain link gate. My next door neighbor tried Hotwire with his goats and they kept just busting through it. He said he did 6 strands and it still didn't keep them in. Was it the horns? I don't know. Anyways I just went with the welded wire roll fencing but it seems to me that there has to be a way to make that work.

Thanks. I was hoping a really hot fence would deter them. My horses are respectful and won't push the line even if it wasn't hot. May have to rethink my plans.

Re: miniature horses: My son is 6 and he likes horses, but he is terrified of full size ones. He does not like to ride, just brushing, petting, feeding etc. He is comfortable around the minis because they are more his size. Also, there is a stable around here for disabled children that have minis! They also bring the minis to nursing homes :)
