➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Except Miss Badness, who has already thrown an additional egg that was laid in her nest while she was on break, out of the nest and broke it. I know it was laid while she was out because the ones she is sitting on are all marked and this egg was not marked! So hopefully you don't have a hen who can count like I do. :th:barnie when she gets back on the nest she stands in front of it first and just looks for a min, before getting back in.
Maybe she's not counting. Maybe she's looking for your mark! If she doesn't see it out it goes!

My current mama hen definitely noticed when I gave her new eggs. I waited till she took her daily break, then took away the 4 medium sized tan eggs she had been sitting on and replaced them with the 10 large blue eggs I had bought. Poor thing finished her break and went back into her little broody coop. Stopped dead in her tracks in front of her nest and stared at it. Turned around and ran back down her ramp into the run. Ran around in the run raising a fuss for a few minutes then went back in the house to stare at the eggs some more. In the end though she couldn’t resisted the siren call of a full nest. Climbed in and behaved beautifully all through the the incubation and hatch.

I felt kinda bad though. I have always thought she was the dumb one in the flock. Turns out she is pretty perceptive! :gig
