potor doesn't add water until the end
"....
The first 24 days is considered the incubation period. I don’t add any water at all in the incubator for this time period. You shouldn’t have to unless you are in an extremely dry part of the country with very low humidity below 50%

If you run your incubator in an air conditioned room you may have to add water if your humidity is below 50% in the room...." http://www.porterturkeys.com/egghatchingtips.htm
This guy says he doesn't add any water until lockdown but he doesn't give me a number for the humidity level inside his bator.
I want to know how low his humidity gets. :barnie
You think he will respond to an email from a stranger?

I got 17 out of 24 eggs to hatch.

17 of 24.

I could have a driven to Sacramento, shelled out a few bucks buying refrigerated eggs at trader joes, and potentially have gotten more viable eggs than my fancy, bubble-wrapped eggs from Redding.

Now, of course they wouldn't hatch into lavender marans.

I was not planning to add any water at all until lock down but now I'm thinking I better not let it get lower than 15% in there.
Make sure you know what the lower limit of your hygrometer is. Many of the cheaper models will only read down to 20% humidity no matter how low the humidity actually is. My house gets below 10% humidity during the winter and the cheap hygrometers that I have still read the humidity as 20%. It is possible to drive the humidity down to 0% in an incubator without adding water in a dry climate.

Once I turn the swamp cooler on, the house humidity gets to be around 50%. At that time I run the incubator without adding any water. Before I turn on the swamp cooler, I have to add water to the incubator to keep it from becoming too dry.

Your call I wouldn't but you know no pressure lol
I think I am going to stick to my original plan and not add water at all...until lockdown.

I've pretty much just set these eggs and walked away.
I though I was going to get candle happy and candle daily but I have not done so yet.

Shoot I don't even know if they are fertile/developing yet.

NOW you tell me this! :barnie
How the heck am I suppose to find out what the lowest level it will read is?
