We would all DIE without an air conditioning system down here.
My memory of a swamp cooler is going to Grandma's house (in CA) and she had one that aimed toward the kitchen. It was LOUD but cool sitting right in front of it. The rest of the house was hot and humid. I hope they've improved them since then.

ETA: Grandma also had a wood fired stove in that kitchen. Hot as @?;# in there!

Humidity here is usually only 30%. It's raining right now, so it's jumped to 60.

I don't think I could handle living anywhere else. I lived in Seattle for a few years, and had a horrible, almost debilitating, sinus headache for at least 10 months out of the year. I grew up in Toronto, and when I've gone back there I just can't handle the stickiness, or in the winter how the cold goes through your bones.
