➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I left the ducklings outside last night, all night. They are alive and alert and active this morning, so this may be the end of the indoor brooder! The low was supposed to be 45 degrees, which is about as good as it gets around here, and I rationalized that the chickens were way smaller when they moved out... but then there was frost when I woke up and the temp is currently 33. I wouldn't have left them out if I knew that! :barnie

Planted bunch of flowers yesterday because so far I've been moving dirt and planting seeds or little things that look nothing more than a small stick poking out of the ground. I wanted something to show for my efforts. Fortunately the survived the night too!

Ducks don't mind the cold silly.
They will be find.
That is not too cold for them.

Good morning :frow

Had a good weekend, auction was fun and ended up with a lot of things, for not much $.
Sold 3 mallard mixed drakes we had gotten for free from someone. Went looking out for rabbits and some birds...they actually had a nice bird selection at this one.

Bought 4 young rabbits right off the bat - 3 meat breed, 1 holland lop, for $4/each.
3 ringneck pheasants for $5/each - probably could have gone cheaper on them, but we wanted them so fiance started them off at $5 and no one bid against us (one escaped an opening in the top corner where we kept them overnight before we could move them into the 'new-to-us' coop the people who rent from the fiance's parents gave us Sunday)
10 really pretty Ameraucana chicks for $1/each
8 ~2 month old Ameraucana chicks for $3/each
4 Buff Orpington hens almost ready to lay for $8.50/each
1 little black bunny for $2
5 game hens for $2/each

They had guinea keets, like 42 of them boxed by the half dozen, but they went way too high each time, like $7-9 per keet (when bidding on them, it's the bid amount x how many, so 6x your money on each box). The keets & Ameraucana's were from a local NPIP-certified breeder.

Sunday someone we've traded/sold with came by to pick up a couple female rabbits, and trade us a male holland lop they had which will pair good with the female we got Saturday. We also reinforced the pig pen, picked up the new-to-us coop (there's still another one over there waiting for us to get - they think a bobcat got their birds, and they decided to be done with keeping any), picked up a gosling and 2 Pekins from a friend - now our goose has a friend, and the Pekins were bothering her black Australian swans. Then went to the beach for some much-needed swimming in the waves - it was 93 or so yesterday. Cooked one of our meat birds for dinner after letting it marinate with injectable marinade overnight. So tender and yummy. Bunny beans are down to 4, but we have our fingers crossed they will make it. :fl

This week is not only emu chick week (picking it up Wed), but also our first chicken egg hatch is due Thurs/Fri! :ya Fingers crossed we get a least some success.

Now it's back to work for another week :sick Hopefully all the work pile that is accumulating will make the day go by quick so I can get home to the fiance and the animals :)

Hope everyone had a great weekend and has a wonderful week

You make me extremely nervous! :barnie

@Toogoodoo you have a lot going on! I feel like I can't keep up with my own flock and garden projects and it's far less!

It was like 35 degrees and raining at my bedtime last night. I struggled with whether or not to leave the ducklings outside, but had spent a few hours cleaning the guest bedroom and house and really didn't want the brooder box back. I left them out. They were fine. That settles it, they are out for good now.

Many of the seeds I planted have sprouted. Fingers crossed my garden will be better this year than last.
