➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

OOOOH something I can sorta actually answer! :celebrateI used them on the cats (Thundershirts)...had one cat that was too fat for the cat version so got the small/medium size dog version. After the cat passed I wound up giving it to my co-worker who had issues with her dog going ape sh** in the car on car rides. They make the cats go catatonic (no pun intended) but apparently it did help an very anxious chihuahua.:idunno

This is interesting... in the car... I may just need to try this, my aussie's anxiety can be through the roof in the car (unfortunately her and my husband feed off each other and I want to throw them both out, either one is borderline tolerable in a vehicle on their own) She knows we are going for a hike and gets soooo worked up.

Yea, a lot of the info out there is on the cooking part, in order to eat them, after buying the eggs. I assume some that are sold in markets have been heated to a temp above fatal. But seeing that hers continued to develop, apparently they didn’t kill the embryo prior to selling, I would assume they should continue at this point.
I saw a vid where they bundle groups of eggs in net bags which are moved as a group and re-covered with the heated medium. ..not as often as a normal turner, but still they do get moved some.:)

I am aware. Didn’t mean it that way.

Say an owner gets worked up and stresses about fireworks messing with their animals, fusses all around them, tries to “calm” them by moving them or giving extra attention and in turn stresses the animal out by them feeding off the anxious energy.

Then owner applies homeopathic concoction of essential oils and sits back, waiting for it to kick in. Suddenly the owner is calm and not fussing with them and in turn the animal starts to wind down. Owner sees them winding down, relaxes, situation diffuses.

If it works then it works, placebo or not. I’m not bashing it, but the above example and similar situations are extremely common testimonials and hold no weight for me personally.
ahh true

friend had a shelter dog they would put in the laundry room when they left the house. Dog was fine until one late june day they came home at midnight and the dog was frantic, door was all scratched up. Next night the door had been destroyed. the next few night he stayed home and the dog went nuts when the neighbors shot off fire works.. so the 4th of July he put plywood on the inside frame over the new door. When he got home the dog had eaten through the drywall next to the door... fast forward to the next year.. door tore up before the 4th.. dog given herbal concoction after that... dog was nervous but the plywood door and wall were not scratched...

Today is day 7. All three are still alive.
No pip yet though.:(

Pictures?
Does the little one with an internal pip need a safety hole?
I'll get pics when I get back home. I'm on the road for a bit.

I don't think I need to poke a hole yet. I think I am going to wait for now. I'm not allowed to touch that egg.

I'd be very surprised if the hatchery producing these was following traditional (labor intensive) incubation methods. I know Metzer sells their balut at 17 days. I'd guess they load a cabinet full and pull the sold balut the same day they move the rest of the eggs that will be hatching from incubator to hatcher. Up until that point, they've received the exact same care.
